Hey guys, I've started throwing money on my ej9 and I am getting a better think about it. It has many exterior problems, scratches, bumps and many km(180k). So since ek's are dropping on prices I'm thinking about buying one. Now I've write it all down and it costs aproximatelly the same money to built or buy my dream car. So I could need some opinions with this! Thanks

i would personally buy urd dream car mate less hassle and as long as you check it before you buy it there should be no problems

your shell will constantly need bodywork done and to do an engine swap also costs quite a bit

do both. buy a standard ek9 then build that. dont build a rusty ej9

samething to me, i ended up buying one with engine already converted. it only ended up me spending 200/300 more with alot more stuff inside. unless you can do most of the stuff yourself/with friends, then labour costs isnt cheap :/

i agree, the only things i'd change on my car is i want a EK9 shell/dash/roll bars. other than that i wouldnt change a thing.

my current ek had the engine swap done but i have done all the suspension, bodywork, brakes

my next one has everything all ready done, including k20 swap!

I bought and then continue to build and am still doing so Lol

^ same as wishy...

Always a good idea to buy one with some parts on it and then add to them... Much cheaper that way... also means at any time you can make money back by selling on the parts. :) :)
i see alot of stickers saying Built NOT bought...
so i'd say my philosophy is:

Bought AND Built :run: :run: win win if you ask me..

this problem goes back and forth through my head all the time. If you just buy it, you save time and the effort. If you build it you learn a bit more about the car maybe but costs more and time consuming. I ended up deciding to stick with building, already started so might aswell finish it. Will be a long journey though. Good luck in finding a solution

i bought a dc2 and have been building it ever since, doesnt matter what car you have ull end up spending a fortune on it lol

the good thing about building is you can buy what you want for your car in stead of making compromises (buying a car thats got some good things on it but not really what you want.) you also get a satisfaction out of knowing that what you have is how you'd want it to be, and its you time and effort.... if that makes sense!!!!

I built mine. Sure it hasn't got the same chassis as the 9, but everything else is EK9 spec pretty much. Has cost a pretty penny though! :nono:

I would love an EK9, if but for the fact it would be the same as my EK4, but as standard. There's a lot going for a standard car you know... ;)

In Greece Ek4's (as we don't have 9's) cost about 10k€ so it was difficult for me to buy one. But now they are 2k less so I thought about it better. Also it's rare to find a untouched shell+genuine ek4+stock+cheap so things where pretty hairy. Anyway I put my ej9 on sell and we'll see how it goes. Thanks a lot guys!

Vaguely on this subject, I've seen no less than 3 cars this morning, and about 10 this week with those 'Built not Bought' stickers, amongst many others plastered over the rear window. Without exception, they were all ****.

Bolting a backbox, a JDM tow hook and some Halfords alloys on a rusty 15 year old shitbox does not constitute 'built', sorry. :p

Most mean that the engine is put after instead of buying an EK4. Anyway I have that avatar cause of my ej9. I was ready to built a facelift ek9 replica in yellow with a b18c.. BUT! This ej9 is trouble. Front wings are imitation's, many hits on rear wings, the front crystal has to go, bumps on the roof from hail and generally once the car was hit it didn't get the fix it had to. I bought it that way but I learned things after. So I'm going with the path of buying one as good as I can get and then make it my dream ek. As for the sticker; it's stolen from jeeps that where converted for mountain climbing. But yu gotta admitt.. It's cool! :D

It's cool if the car is actually seriously modified!

I'm seeing them on rusty Vauxhall Corsas with stock wheels painted bright orange, chopped springs and a Halfords back box though... :nono:
