Hi lads and gals,
As the title reads I'm looking to do a little upgrading on the transmission. I've been reading some posts on related topics to the upgrades I will be making. And also i just wanted to know some of the opinions of ek9 members and what they thought before i made my FINAL decision. Ok so I'm thinking of an ACT clutch and fly package. the ACT Spring Centered 6 pad clutch disc with a heavy duty pressure plate and the ACT Streetlite flywheel, its weight is 12.5 lbs, my friend told me to stay above 12 lbs, any reasons why that is? Also thats the reason i am goin with the act streetlite fly, but if someone can confirm why that is, i might switch to a fidanza bc ive heard nothing but great things about their flyhweels. And im looking for a 4.785 final drive with possibly a integra LS 5th gear for highway cruising purposes... my car will mostly be a track car once its finished but i also want to be able to just cruise around in it which is why im going with the 4.7 FD bc i dont want a loud noise in my box while driving... this thread is open to opinions, and constructive criticism... thanks lads!

My Car is also for track / spirited drives and apart from that it lives in the garage!

I have the 4.7FD in a 98spec S80 box, However i've swapped the 4th and 5th for the 4th and 5th out of an S4C and the improvement over a standard S80 is great.

Obviously the S4c already has those gears but with a 4.4 FD (iirc?) So a new final drive should sort you out nicely!

Only issue i have is that anything over 80mph and im in vtec in 5th as it kicks in at 5k

But with the longer 5th you are suggesting or stock Vtec engagement it shouldn't be an issue :nice:

Hope thats of some use!

Why do you want a different flywheel? Do you think it makes your car much faster or for the feel?

If the flywheel is too light, usin the clutch can become vry hard AFAIK.

None at all, he's picked that number out of thin air by the looks of it. I had a 9lb flywheel and it was awesome. I could drive around in rush hour traffic barely touching the throttle and never stalled, it just takes technique.

I'm gutted I sold it TBH, the stock flywheel makes the engine feel lazy and unresponsive in comparison. If anything, I would like an even lighter one to replace it, but not sure you can go much lighter than 9lb...

no i dont think that it makes the car faster, however it does help with throttle response... and also i want it for the feel, like someone said above a heavier flywheel makes the engine feel lazy, im looking for that snappy-ness for throttle response...
