It may be a bit of a controversial question, but i was just wondering are EK9's worth the money thats being asked of them today, considering you can get an EP3 with 50-60k miles for pretty much the same money?

And do they hold their value well over the years? is it difficult to sell them?

Make your own mind up they are unique and in limited supply !!

tbh they've recently become alot more common

I remeber 2 yrs ago i had never seen a EK9 on the road

they have become a hell of alot more common in the last year or so but im still to actually see one on the road.unless its a mate who i hook up with who has one etc.

as in regards to the price...my heart says to say that the fact that your even debating between an ek9 and an ep3 means your heart isnt really in it, and i think that most people who buy ek9s or dc2s buy them as their hearts are fully into the old school type rs and what they are all about.
the ep3s are common, i see on average about 7-10 a day.and the ammount of people who i have met (including an ex) who havent got a clue about the type r history or what the ek9 is at all just disapoints me. :( .the ek9s about being raw and a track based car.the ep3 has been tamed down and just isnt the same if you ask me. the cost doesnt even come into it :)

well said mate :nice:

Good EK9's are holding their price well in Japan, as they are still in high demand.

An example of the prices going through the Japanese auction houses:

2000, Grade 4, 43,000 km 1,419,000 YEN
2000 Grade 4.5 48,000 kn 1,420,000 YEN
1999, Grade 4.5 56,000 km 1,207,000 YEN

The minters (grade 4.5 and 5's) with low milage are being sold for much higher then the prices above.

Not forgetting you got to pay VAT, Duty, Shipping, etc. to get the car road when it's arrives here in the UK.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for!

I know for the sums that the these EK9's are selling for, your into the regions of being able to pick up a S2000, DC5, EP3 (I'm talking about EK9's that would cost over £10k plus). All very nice cars, but then it's down to personal preference.

2000 reg JDM DC2's are also hold their price well too!

I'm still on the hunt for as mint as possible facelift EK9, but then again, I'm into the old school, or I would of brought any of the above already :)

Dont forget the EK9 is faster than the EP3

words cannot describe the feeling when you drive an EK9, you have to experience it first hand especially at the corners, this car is born for cornering, you feel like you are part of the car & vice versa. the others feel like you are just along for the ride.

well said! nearly brought a tear to my eye!

What do you think is the main reason to why it handles so well?

Used USDM ITR's sell for $15,000 or more all day. If we had ek9's here it would be the same, the ones that are imported and sold in the US sell for almost $20,000. The reason of such resale value is that the EK9 and DC2-r are essentially street prepped race cars, which is what thousands of car people strive to build every day.

Handling is always a combination of things, but what really makes it different from other "safe" factory vehicles is the large rear sway bar. Manufacturers make most FWD cars to safely understeer as the average driver can deal with that; the EK9 counteracts understeer with the large rear bar to make a car that is relatively neutral.
Other factors that set it apart from cars in its price range include the double wishbone suspension, stiffer springs and shocks, and the braced and seam welded chassis.

ah i had a feeling it was something to do with the ARB's :p

imo i recon in about 8yrs time the EK9 will be considered a classic :)

as said above you really need to drive one to understand what all the hype is about. other people on the forum have said that the weight distribution over the four wheels is very equal, improving the handling.

the ek9 is worth every penny! I would really like to know what they cost brand new from a honda dealership!?

the whole point behind your question is whether the buyer knows anything about Honda. If he really knows somethin, then he will know which is the softer car. A proper vtec maniac will go for an ek9 as its just such a perfect car from standard. In most ways an ek9 is much more savage than a dc2. With that prospect in mind it is obvious that the ep3 seems to have lost some of the type-r flair that is so rich in the ek9. so basically anyone who buys an ep3 is just a bloke with loads of money that likes the looks of it. and if you were to ask that bloke why he bought the ep3 instead of the ek9 he will say because it is more modern. total BMW..ishhh

I think I have complicated it a bit but you got the point

I was expecting jugbugz to reply here because he's got the full range of type-r's lol. so there is no better guy to tell you the difference between the new models and the old ones.

the uk integra type r cost over 20k (i think?)

think they were about 18-19k, may be wrong, there was a hell of a waiting list in 98 for them tho,

as for ek9's being common, well, as far as i'm aware there is only two in the whole of the county of cornwall one of them is mine:) so nice and rare where i live.

i dream of finding the very last ek9 ever made that was never sold and has 0 kilometres.
an 08 ek9

anything else is a compromise tbh

and i think ep3's are only for posers who only buy the car because of the hype that the ek9 worked soo hard to achieve, and they look far less attractive

the DC2 R
the ek9 R
and the NSX R

^^^^^ the only real type R's^^^^^

i hate to be rude but this is possibly the dumbest question ever asked, its like going to supraforums.com and asking them if $25,000-$30,000usd for a 10-15year old car is worth it and why they dont just buy newer cars... yes it is worth it, obviously it is, here look, we have a whole website dedicated to it!
