Big problem

How many pistons look like that? Is it the one? Or have they all got damage?

That looks like pre ignition damage. Is there anything visual that could of caused a potential "hot spot " ?

There is nothing visual that indicates the cause that I can see, but as mentioned in the first post it had melted a plug (wrong heat range) a week or so ago & the fact this cylinder was very low on compression! He has had a cel light come on a few times over the past few weeks (not pulled the codes yet) but guessing it could have been to do with knock.
All the other cylinders are ok!

I'm pretty sure this isnt knock/det damage, it looks like pre ignition. As the wrong plugs were in there and the fact that only one cylinder is damaged it makes me even more certain.

It looks like its new engine time I'm afraid....

P.S. What engine is this ? and do we know anything about what modifications (if any) have been done ?

I'd take the block for free? would make a nice coffee table!

modifications are
b16b block
stock engine
stock ecu
421 mani
decat
buddy club spec 3 catback
whale p***s
70mm throttlebody
skunk2 inlet ported to 70mm
hotwire ht leads
hondata intake gasket
always smelled fuely when booting it thought it was cos decat

ngk uriduim heat range 7

the old one's was the same but heat range 5

Blocked injector??? made it run lean/hot on that cylinder.
Dunx

It's most likely down to the heat range been 5. A blocked injector wouldnt cause a failure like this on a stock engine. It would just run like crap and missfire .

I don't think you'd destroy a stock engine running stock power with a faulty injector personally. You'd notice it right from idle as well as the car would be misfiring. Flat out with a glowing spark plug would cause this....

Pull the fuel rail and injectors out, hold the injectors in place (firmly), crank the engine over and watch the injector spray patterns. If they all look similar then the injectors are OK. If one doesn't fire or if its squirting instead of spraying then you have a bad injector.

Just thinking about it, if you had a injector that had a poor spray pattern then combined with the wrong plugs may have caused this.... It's hard to say though... All we can do is guess.

thanks for the help il get jimbob to check them when he next has a day on car guys
thanks for all the help guys
