Hi, I've seem to developed a problem where I change from 1st to 2nd, not giving it a lot of power but then when I decide to put my foot down I get no power and then a few seconds later it kicks in, the car in a 1.4 2000 ej9. Could it be the injectors need to be cleaned r maybe the air filter, any help is appreciated, T
hanks Joe.

Imo it sounds like it could be an ignotion problem as it occurs under load, have you changed your plug leads or dissy at any point? Or do you know if they have ever been replaced?

This sounds like an airflow problem to me
Is your engine standard?

I only have it 5 months now, haven't changed anything, haven't been told anything was changed in it from the dealership. There's no receipts of any dizzy r leads been changed. The car is complete bog standard and staying like that till I get my full licence. Should be sometime soon, I hope.

was the car dyno tuned or anything like that

No it hasnt, there's been no modifactions done to it bar alloys, that's why I bought it, though it was a solid car with no problems and be able to make my own stamp on it, without it falling to pieces when things were getting done to it.

It could be your clutch yeah but when you put your throttle down does the car rev up but not move or does it just hesitate then go?

It just heistate's, like I would be just doing 20mph at 2500/3000 revs then, it's like it loses power. You put ur foot down even a little bit and no response and then a few seconds later there's power but jurky. The clutch is fully up at this stage, so I don't think it's the clutch slipping.

I think your TPS may be faulty, you need to unplug it and measure restiance and check it builds gradually.
Dunx

I had a very similar problem before mate with a b series coupe and it turned out ti be one of the leads. You could try checking the leads for continuety. You would do this by measuring the plug leads resistance with an ohmmeter on a multimeter. There will probably be one with a very high rating compared to the other three

I went to a local garage today and they said that it could be the dizzy, now they didn't look at it, they just said that form what I said. How likely can this be if it happens say 1 in every 9 trips I take in the car?? Also I wouldnt like to forke out alot of money on a dizzy when it could be something simple.

in all honesty you cant say for sure gong off the consistancy of the fault. you need to try your best to diagnose the fault, no1 goes out and forks out cash from what a bloke GUESSES is the problem. although i do agree it is LIKLEY to be an ignition fault.

here are two relativley simple checks you, a mechanic or possibly a mate who is a sparky could carry out before considering buying a new distributor. it could turn out to be neither of these things but u wont know untill you try. or have a search on the internet im sure this problem will have occured before.
