Its probably after been well discussed already, ive done a quick search and cant find a simple answer to my question.
Ive bought a DC2 track car and im either thinking of giving the engine a freshen up or i also have a chance at a B20Z engine, complete long engine.
If i use the B20z Block with its standard internals.. will it take much abuse as a track day car?

If your not going to spend money upgrading your internals then simple answer is - No. Your better off with the b18c.
B20 cylinders are just too thin and the block is not exactly webbed/strengthened from factory.

Ok, what about the standard internals are they up for a bit of track use?

The way I read it he just said no and why it doesn't.

B20z stock is not ok to track. Stick with a stock b18c for a reliable track engine.

people say b20's are weak...i do not know that for a fact
what can put put more stress on a motor
drag racing or road racing ? this idk somebody please chime in...

Given the exact same engine, road racing. Simply because with a drag you load the engine for wat, 10-15 seconds? While road racing will keep the engine loaded much more.

So to have as reliable as a B18c, were are looking at Pin supporting bores, upgrade rods, pistons, bearings, what about Crank?
And also i gather a Girdle needs to be fitted...

Is there any tricks that can be done when freshening up the B18c to give it some more grunt, had thought of upping the comp slightly, i suppose its better to try stay standard size piston if possible to keep stenght in standard liners?
Thanks for the help

I've done several track days on my b20 vtec and it was fine. I've ran it SS a daily for over 3 years now with no problems at all bar a set of spoon ht leads going which I bought 2nd hand anyway.
Was as awesome engine

Ever thought of a K20 swap?

It's all in the build with b20's.

Take it to someone who really knows their way around that engine i.e DNR and it will be fine.

if its built right its fine imo.
like i said ive ran mine for ages, no problems

K20 swap will cost double that of a B20

A fully built B20 will cost more if not the same as a K20 swap. K20 will last longer being all stock too, and top it all off with a 6spd close ratio gear box on the K20.

K20 wins. Only downfall is the crap shifter feel. [I hear that can be fixed tho]

Thats a fully built one yes..
Still if your buying most things new with K20, plus bolt on+ K-Pro + tune, its expensive.

I however feel K20 does win, hence i sold my B20.......

B motors have more race parts available...but in time that too will change.
