B16B: Stroker, b20 or 18c stroker kit?

Fair play guys!

Do you think buying a b18c4 and doing all this would be give better bhp/£ than the b20 block conversion on the b16b already in the car?

Honestly if it was me i would get a B18C Type R and change the gears or final drive.

Thats what i would do. Reliable, fair cost overall, and its tried and tested. The engine i mean.

You really need to decide on what your goals are and how much you want to spend.

Sounds like a good choice although how much the gears/final drive gonna set you back and what best option with this engine?
Why the gears make such a diff, is it to do with picking up the v-tec at better points through out the gears or what?

Also

Have you any experience with the B20 conversion or know anything about them?
Performance tec in Glasgow supposedly do it onto EK9's for £2k complete.

I've herd that B20's are expensive to make reliable thats what put me off. Cause i was going down the B20 route before.

Gears how can i explain this if you shorter the gears you accelrate quicker and keep it in the power band during gear changes but sacrifce your top speed. Say you car is geared for 140, change that so its geared to do 120 but it will get there like fcuk.

Final Drive gear are relitively cheap inc buying and fitting i think it was about £800 odd

You can choose to selectivly change individual gears but a FD will change all.

MFACTORY are the guys to speak to.:nice:

I never realised that was what had been getting talked about when people mentioned changing the final drive .
So are you saying that shortening the final drive will shorten all the gears?

yes changing the final drive will shorten all the gears......means that for every gear the top speed of it will be shorter but u will accelerate quicker

Cool!

How user friendly is this in a street car?
Is it a case of high revs in 5th bursting your nut while cruizn on the motorway?
Effect economy much?

IIRC if you went from a 4.4 final drive to a 4.928 it increased your revs @ 70mph from approximatly 3800rpm to 4300rpm... Not to bad me thinks.

Watch this video.

4.928 final drive in a B16B watch the speedo :drive:

YouTube - my B16b hatchie with 4.928 final drive

So he is going through the gears bit quicker in theory.

well all he meant if u shorter ur gears u will achieve LESS top speed if u Higher ur Final Gear u will get more top spead but with less accelerations

Shorter Final gear - LOADS of Accelerations ok! <----------this is what U NEEEED
Higher Final gerar - Less accelerations BUT MORE TOP SPEED

i hope u will get this message if not

u should just get induction kit and cat back and leave it the way it is !!!!
am not bean smart i hope it helps :D

go b20vtec all motor fully built, no regret. a combo of b20z and b18type R head is amazing

Hey guys I'm new to ek9.org, I currently have a 97 dx ek9 hatchback. I put a b16b type r motor in it and the tranny too. I have a skunk2 intake manifold, apexi vtec controler with act stage 1 clutch, Dc1 headers with a Powercord exhaust, I have the AEM EMS that I am planning on tuning the car with but I am waiting untill I have all the parts I want and then I will install everything. I am planning on getting Rage Hytech headers with a stage 2 clutch and a light weight flywheel which I'm not sure which Brand to get. I want to go All motor with high compression pistons. And is the b18 crank and rods with the pistons a good choice or should I go with The spoon 1.8L stroker kit for the b16b? Please Help!!! I need good info and suggestions on what clutch kit to go with and what light weight flywheel? Also what stroker kit? Please reply to me. Thanks.
