hi i have a pretty sweet b16a2 sitting in my ej9 78k on it looking at mods for it its currently pushing 166.7 bhp with aem induction {short ram} 4-1 mani {shitty impreza sounding one} unknown exhaust system thats it for mods im looking at doing 70mm skunk2 throttle body and skunk2 intake manifold and a better mani {mugen 5zigen if i can find one } just wanted to know peoples thoughts on it bhp expected to gain other mods for good bhp any camber/toe/caster setups for grip tyres ect {currently on r1r up front t1r at the back } and any other gen to give it alittle edge over the others also doing a ek9 subframe and steering rack conversion at some point cheers any notes will be helpful :thanks:

wouldnt waste your money on tb and intake mani, i'd spend it on suspension and gearing.

As captain chunk said, gearing is the way mate. Get yourself an mfactory close ratio gearset and final drive, best bang for buck imo :nice:

b16a2 hard to squeeze bhp from ?

Not realy, oviously they wont make the sort of figures the type r motors do NA due to the lack of compression but with basic breathing mods (intake, manifold, exhaust and a decent tune is crutial to make the most of your bolt-ons.

However your gains wont be mega, you would he better off spending money on suspension and gearing. Amazing the difference a shorter final drive and a PROPER suspension and geometry set-up makes. Far more competative than an extra 10bhp.

Pretty much, unless you up the compression with cams then you will have to upgrade the valvetrain and get it mapped. for all that money you could have a S4C LSD gearbox with a shorter final drive and a gearset in there as well as some other good mods to the chassis.

sweet ok so bhp eliminated in my mind shes already pretty grippy bt has a non lsd box list of mods ;

2 strut braces up front
3 in the rear
skunk2 camber arms {tuner}
skunk2 full kit at the back usual stuff
sparco evo buckets
takata harnesses
half strip
dc coilovers
-1.5 camber up front
0.5 at the rear
caster stock
toe is a little positive

am looking for a x brace as 2 of my 3 rears have gone weak {ally struts}
as with final drive any one know any of these mods youd think would help please send them my way if price is reasonable :] and any ammendments i can make to my current setup let us know cheers again guys

imo throw those (prob 5piece ebay set) braces away and get yourself a decent 3pt front and a straight one piece rear brace. They will tighten things up plenty. upgrading the ARB's is optional but if you make the rear one bigger than oem you will need a subframe brace on the rear. I assume you meant to type -0.5 of rear camber as + camber is bad. There are several FD options and loads of gearset variation available. I would keep a look out for a box out of an ek9 with a 4.7 FD and LSD as this would be the best for a daily drive.

yeah -0.5 haha i have been offered b16b engine and box for 900 from my mate but not really sure and have no idea my way round wiring it in

Matt ek9 on here has a 4.7 FD set for sale. You'd need the ek9 gearbox to fit it into but is a worth while mod

I think an integra type r inlet and tb wud still b a good upgrade and u will pay less than half the amount of the sk2 products, matched with a quality manifold and then a good mapping session, even if the figures are not amazing, u will definatly feel a huge improvement in the overall drive of the car and a more consistent torque figure which is the main thing the Honda engines lack. If that's no good then just chuck a teg engine in, you won't be disappointed

itr/ctr cams (or tuners or some other type of after market cam if you like)
good manifold decat and cat back 2.5 inch system
skim your head by .7 or .8 of a mm
good intake arm 3inch.
good filter and cold air feed
light weight flw wheel
4.7 final drive
remap

Get a spoon ecu and a 98 spec 4.7fd gearbox, epic combo. My car has came to life since i have fitted the 4.7fd and spoon ecu. Lowered vtec is a definate must. My old milino red ek4 went a nose in front of him and i only had a buddyclub spec 3 cat back, decat, ebay manifold and a cheap ebay filter. Could be down to the driver but i was behind him at the round about before the motorway.

But if you gonna buy power mods you might aswell go b16b or b18c. Skunk2 inlet is a good upgrade for a b16a2 or even a ek9 inlet.

ok so there are cheap options that you can get power . i understand 16a2 are pretty bulletproof but 16b are even better . so i basically need decent mani , exhaust , spoon/mugen/js racing ecu, induction kit and a teggy or ek9 box and thats the best i can really take it ? what sort of bhp with those mods vtec life engine life ect?

Amazing the difference a shorter final drive makes. Far more competative than an extra 10bhp.

There's a difference between what FEELS faster and what is actually faster. In a car with decent gearing as standard, I'd take the 10bhp, every time.

got work done by mez today and he said start with ripping out cheapo mani new tegiwa in {still unsure on the tegiwa mani} then its the spark plugs and ignition leads then type r steering rack and subframe and a 4.7 gearbox thenn better coilovers . after all that different powere mods we discussed sound good way to go guys ?
