Hi there,

I hope to get my civic (EK4 SIR hatch) back on the road again after a year and a half parked up. I decided to change the water pump, timing belt and tensioner, however after changing the belt the engine runs very rough and is not responsive to throttle and will cut out if you ease off too quickly.

It was running 100% before the belt change. Tonight I took off the cam cover again, as I was afraid one of the sprockets skipped a tooth, however when the crank is marked at TDC (4th timing mark on the crank pulley) both cam sprockets also match up.

Any other ideas of where to go from here?

Thanks for reading, any help would be greatly appreciated.

It does sound like timing is out, i'd double check it again.

Finally got round to looking at this again, checked the TDC with a welding rod down the cylinder and all was in order and put in new leads with still no difference!

Had a quick recheck today and I had lead ends 3 and 4 plugged in wrong on the distributor.

Problem solved, shes now running like a dream!

hard to beat.....its best just to keep the leads plugged into the dizzy when removing it

makes it a lot easier for reinstalling them

Yea its good practice! needed new leads anyway as the other ones were pretty badly corroded.

Delighted it was such a simple fix!! :win:
