hi iv just bought a apexi vafc 2, i know that alot of you think its a waste of money but i pick a brand new one up for £70 off someone who tried to fit it to there sohc vtec del sol but it was made for the dohc bseries so he couldnt fit it, iv got an ek9 and is it possible to get any gain in bhp or torque figures by changing the air to fuel ratio because most vtecs tend to run rich so surely more air is needed ? i dont intend on changing the vtec crossover point as honda has already set the optimized point and i have learnt from previous times which i had a buddyclub vcon on my eg6, what a load of crap that was, it was just noise and no kick so i removed it, i never bothered putting one on my itr dc2 but because i thought it had to be a snatch at 70quid id give it ago on the ek9?:thanks:

You could tune it your self but you need a wideband o2 sensor and a gauge to know exacty what air fuel ratio your car is running. The last thing you want mate is to run it to lean because you could scrap your engine. You need to take it to someone who knows exactly what the doing really.

yeah iv got a mate thats a mechanic and he tunes too, he will be able to set it up for me without any problems, i just wondered if it was possible to get much of an increase in power by doing it?

Yeh you will get a bit, if i was you i would do some modding first. Like cams, exhaust, header and a good intake.

yh mate i do intend on doing cams and intake mods but the vafc was a bargain that i couldnt let go really, my cars already got a fujitsubo exhaust but i want to change it because its to tame for my liking lol, i want a j's racing 60RS titanium or an amuse r1 titan.

it looks like you've had a good buy then mate, i worry about setting it up after the modding to be honest because you will need it tuning again.:p

The VAFC is fine for altering your fuelling to prevent it from running lean but if your talking about getting cams then the vafc is not the best option as you cannot adjust your ignition timing. Best to get a stand alone aftermarket ecu i.e Hondata or a chipped obd1 ecu if your going down the road of larger cams.

i have a question about these
do the Apexi VAFC 2 's over ride the speed limiter as well as doing all the other stuff it does ?
cheers fon

AFAIK it does not over ride/remove speed limiter, you will need the apexi rsm for that.

sorry to rob this post

but are there any vtec controllers that do over ride the speed limter ?

no worries mate iv got all the info i need, you should start another thread, you'll get more replys, hks do a converter that changes kmh to mph and delimits it but it obviously not a vtec controller, i dont think there is a controller that does both to be honest mate you'll have to get both.:nice:

piggyback fuel controllers like the VAFC work best when subtracting fuel.

the map sensor doesn't like it so much when you try and add more fuel and will eventually throw an error code. Depending on how extensive your mods are, you may need to add more fuel via an FPR and then use the VAFC to subtract accordingly to get the best results.
