Hey guys, looking at getting the SiR insured over the summer months, thing is I'm at uni most of the year so would be willing to take a policy and pay it monthly until september as It won't be used over winter etc.. It will be a 2nd car too as I have the Lupo as a daily. Anyone have any similar experiences or situations? I'm getting a quote of 1500 with my gran as a named driver, would be willing to take this and cancel it after 5 or 6 months, any fee's etc?

I'm 20 with 2 years NCB if anyone has any other recommendations on a facelift SiR EK.

Cheers
Kris

They would charge an admin fee which I think is around £50-60 can't remember exactly how much :)

Yeh as Kirsy says it's around £50.

Sounds like a plan to me!. I must give them a call tomorrow and see what the craic is with it all. Cheers guys! Need to work out if I take a multicar policy for the ek and lupo can I just cancel the civic and leave the lupo, lupo = £529. Civic 1383 on the multicar! Quite a difference lol.

If cancelling is expensive then you can change your policy so that they cancel on you. You still get an administration charge although it might not be as high.

New insurance laws mean that all tax'd cars must have insurance so it can be a pain to be changing and cancelling policies regularly.

How would u get no claims up if u keep canceling it your better or
Keeping it going so when u finished uni your ncb is at a good level. I'm with elephant underwritten by Admiral and I'm getting stung. I'd look about as there's defenatly cheaper company's out there.

I have another policy on the lupo you see which will always carry on its my daily, just want to be able to drive the ek from sort of now until end of summer. And they definately seem the cheapest for me from what I can see for me anyway :nice:

Would the cars be on two separate policies? You can't use one set of no claims on two policies :(

Admiral got me a couple of good quotes a few years ago on a Saxo VTS when I was sitting on 9 points. cancelling the policy does incur a £50 fee alright. But I was able to add another car onto the policy for a fortnight at a time at £20 (306 rallye), as I stated that my car was off the road for repairs, service, etc.

If I were you man, I'd nearly be inclined to keep your policy on the lupo and add your SiR on temporarily, even if it meant doing it 3 or 4 times over the summer months. I think it would work out cheaper and you will still be able to drive the lupo about too. just my 2 cents worth tho.

Why don't you do a multicar policy. When I don't it last year I was paying 170 PCM for a dc5 plus a mg zr. They quoted me 220 just for the teg so it's defenatly worth doing that way u don't have to insure a ek4 sir import with no ncb which is properly going to be alot per month. Or just insure your Ek a month at a time for like 50 per month. However u can only insure a vehicle for 3 months of the yeAr.

So yeh, rang admiral, said "Can I pay monthly", sure your new total will be £3010 at £256 per month with some x amount of deposit. :(

i was willing to pay the 1.8k mark in monthly. But nahhhhhhh!

Might just wait until I'm 21 :eew:

i found this with most people that quoted a price online :( even thought i searched with the monthly payment option

they charged me £77 to cancel my insurance 4 weks before it expired! id stay clear tbh dude! that was £45 admin fee - the cost to send me a letter, and apparently was owe them the rest for their trouble :wow:

every year i do this same trick and works like a charm with admiral (aka elephant)

take out 9 month policy (quicker no claim's) winter hit's phone call made "due to mechanical reason's car is no longer on the road, SORN is declared, will try to get fixed asap saving up the pennies" few months over winter later....
2 weeks before insurance renewal arrives
2nd phone call: "car is now mechanically fine, i would like to un suspend my policy"
massive refund received, 1 years no claims bonus received.
Repeat :)
