I am thinking about getting a stage 2 clucth as I am loosing a lot of time on autocross due to poor launches.

Is a stage 2 going to be a complete c nut on the road?

depends which one you go for kozy, many are horrid but some offer oem like feel and smooth operation on intial move of

I run a ORC 309 multi plate clutch, it can take pretty much anything you throw at it, need about 3k of revs to pull off or it judders etc

Bit of a **** at first but you soon learn to live with it, it would make a stage 2 clutch look tame in comparison so yeah you will be fine :naughty:

i fitted one to my ek9 as i needed one desperately and my mate had one sitting in his garage. slightly stiffer than oem and i got used to it quite fast. easy enough in traffic etc

the second to bottom is not a puck style clutch its a full face, the last one is a 3 puck.

Exedy is a great company but there quality control seems to be hit and miss, while some people have great success with them others hate them.

I say we approach this from a different angle, can you tell us your ultimate power goal, style of driving, and any racing you plan to do circuit or drag?

Not all companies stage II is equal, that is why i ask this question, for example Exedy stage II is far more aggressive than CC stage II.

Had an Exedy 3 puk metal clutch and was grand for every day driving, long story but getting work done and "mechanic" bent it so had to replace it last week with an ATS one instead and to me both feel fairly similar. Both have sprung hubs so grand for normal use :)

Power goal probably not much over the stock B16A, I might get round to improving power but it will be on the original engine to stay within road going sprint classes. I guess probably no more than 180bhp/120lbft.

Driving style I am not to sure on, I have a god deal of mechanical sympathy on the road but can be agressive on track. I heel toe as a matter of habit on downchanges. I think my launch style has been dictated by the fact thaat my clutch has always slipped since I bought the car if giving it some revs, I adjusted my driving to compensate.

At the moment I regulary take part in local autocross events which involve repeated hard launches, the occasional trackday and the obligatory traffic light grand prix every now and again. I plan to get involved with sprinting soon.

mines has an XTC stage 2 on it and 8lb flywheel....

just bought it so no idea wtf it is but its alright for day to day driving....

I see, well autocross is not that intense, if you plan to go to larger tracks then i would say maybe consider an unsprung 4pad disc with a light pressure plate, this would be a good setup for dual duty NA car but since your only autocrossing anything will do but try to stay away from any stage 1 and most stage 2 clutches as most are organic and will fail quickly after a couple launches and autocrosses. Consider the clutchmasters stage 3 :nice:

you mean XTD? total garbage but there flywheels are good.

Good advice cheers. What exactly is an organic clutch anyway? I take it not to mean it has been grown in an environmentally friendly pesticide free greenhouse, so what is organic about it? If they fail so quickly compared to normal (GM?) clutches, what is the point?

lol kozy, well organic is the clutch disc material, typically found on just about every OEM car that comes with a manual box and is typicall the stage 1 clutch from almost every company, some stage 2 are also organic. After organic there is typically kevlar which is used in most companies stage 2 or 3 clutches then its typically ceramic/metaillic then there is the exotic stuff like carbon.

Organic discs only fail quickly when overheated, and will overheat in race type situations. The benefit to them is smooth engagement and long life when driven normal.

Ok cheers.

I think all things considered, I am just going to get an OEM spec replacement, it's going to be better than what I have now and still engage smoothly. :)

im using now exedy stage 3 and its kinda on/off.
for autocross id go with some hd act pressure plate plus 6puck disc with springs.
