Ageing Ek9

.. I've always been a fan of the Ek9, just love the raw sound it makes, the handling and how it still manages to look great after all these years..

I don't actually have an Ek9 (yet) so I am just wondering how these cars age?

I know mechanically most of them have bulletproof engines but in general how do they feel?

Reason I ask is because I have recently sold a 9 year old Kawasaki Zx6r purely because I could feel the bike getting old & dated (although it was mechanically sound)

Hard to respond with a blanket answer...10 year old cars with higher mileage as the years tick by.

Rubber is getting harder in door seals, hoses.
Fit is a tad off due to all the plastic drying up which in turn rattles a tad more inside.
Suspension bushings tend to need replacement at this age
Other parts also start to need replacing at 10 years also, like the distributor, fuel pumps, the IACV...heck the list is long.

You will need to take care of a 10 year old car more than a new one...no news there right?

well worth it.
but I wouldnt buy one personally if its going to be a daily, or not going to use it for fun / track days.

If you want a fast car thats better on fuel and just as quick buy a clio 172. much cheaper too.

yeah good point tama, guess its all about finding the right one too :/

hmm.. i actually am planning to buy one purely as a daily drive and keep it for about a year or 2..

anyone here sold their ek9's because of its age?

3+ years of ej9s and im still not tired of the body shape, dash or how well civics feel to drive. Get one for a while atleast. We cant really tell you how they will age in your opinion.

I wish mine rattled less, but other than that, it drives as good as any newish car I've driven, at least in terms of driver satisfaction. THe only thing that came close was a 2007 RX8, but I just couldn't live with 10mpg.

Thats some of the worst advice i've ever seen in my life.

I want an EK9 to daily it and have fun but not at trackdays, I wont abuse mine at any track even although they can take it - maybe some 1/4 miles but i wouldnt be willing to risk my car at the track.

As far as the Clio comment WOW - I wouldnt spit on a clio if it was on fire, absolute garbage french sh1t boxes (and i'm speaking from being a previous owner).

I'd rather push a Honda than drive another Renault

Anyone who's sold their EK9 due to age has either abused the car and its not in good shape or the biggest reason would be someone who's not confident working on their own car and get scared incase they are in for large repair bills or you also get people who just like new cars or want a faster car or want something cheaper to run ect....

Any real enthusiast will tell you an EK9's not just for christmas

I have my 9 as a weekend toy, and I have a Grande Punto 130 for my daily, which is well built, solid and comfy…honestly it is!

When I was looking for a 9 the age of the car was a slight concern, I have always liked the shape of them however never being in one I was sceptical of the interior and how it has held up over time, bearing in mind some cars are nudging 14 years old. The inside of the 9 is a great place to be imo, and it has aged very well, mainly because it is a simple layout. Some newer car interiors have aged worse.

As someone has said….a fine wine!

If you build the car for a 1/4 it should be fine

Yeah i know but i dont trust myself to drive it without taking it too far ha ha

lo0ool dude, u just made me crackkkk up.... ahahahah aldo we got the same thinking i had never heard that b4 :) nice one! push it good :)

How deep are your pockets?

To be honest you will be hard pushed to find an EK9 that doesn't need some sort of work done - simple

As generalised as it sounds, most people are more interested in fitting aftermarket parts than they are in getting the car 100% mechanically sound. I may just be a perfectionist but a loose feeling clutch pedal, sloppy shifter, spongy brakes etc they would all do my head in :wow:

I've tried my hardest to replace/refurbish everything that would deteriorate with age and got to say the car feels so tight to drive, engine AND chassis wise. My build has cost me a fair bit, however every time i drive it i love it!

If you are looking to buy one, there are plenty about that you can test drive. My advice would be that you try and drive a few and you will soon see the difference between a well maintained one and a neglected one

what he said

wow some really good info here

i am planning to get the ek9 as a 2nd car to daily drive (i have my weekend toys already) and to use on a few track days too

im not too worried about modifications i would rather get the car mechanically sound first as thats what i prefer - in fact im keen on keeping it looking stock (bar the simple mods airfilter, exhaust, tints etc most cars already have this done anyway)

will take in the advice you guys have given and try to get out there to test drive a few, problem is they are all so far away :( im in leicester and doing a quick search the nearest one for sale at the moment is about 1.5hours drive away

I dont think any1 could have put it better steven!

Listen 2 him he knows what hes talking about! As for the closest 1 bein an hour and a half away...mate this is an ek9 an hour and a half is nothing! go for it,see if it does anythin for u,bet we'll hear from u soon haha ,goodluck man

:) yeah i am quite certain on buying one.. but only in 4 months (as thats when i will start needing to commute to work)

haha can still be tempted to buy one early though (must resist!)

realistic budget for a reasonably well sorted example?

Ano the feeling mate

It depend what ur looking for do u want a pre-facelift of facelift, also millage will come into the price aswel as how clean an example it is, history and certain mods.

Do u have an idea of what u want already?
