Hi guys,
I am looking to change the final drive gear on my s4c box to 4.7 (either Mfactory or OE 98spec).

I have played with the gear ratio calculator but i would like to know will there be a noticeable difference upgrading from 4.4 to 4.7 ?

the car has stock B16B (I/H/E, tuned) and stock s4c gear ratio atm.

It is my sunday car, i go to local trackday once a month and maybe drive to work once or twice per week. My budget only allows me to upgrade the FD but not the 4th 5th gear.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers !

If it's an s4c then you already have the shorter 4th and 5th, so a 4.7fd will give you the sort after oem ratios. It's the UK and 98spec s80 which has the longer 4th and 5th gears.

I wish I had gone 4.9 as I didn't think there was enough of a change in the end. It is nice but you only notice it really in 4 and 5th IMO where the difference is much larger.

4.7 is still a worthy change over the 4.4.... Just consider the 4.9 too

I upgraded to a 4.9 FD a few months back and im over the moon with it, certainly not ideal for long trips though. 60mph = 4000rpm

As said you already have an s4c so swapping the final drives you already have the 4/5th you want, just bare in mind if you get an oem 4.7 you need the 1st gear etc to go with it as the 4.4 1st doesnt fit.

Its a very nice upgrade over 4.4, and a good compromise between the 4.4 and the 4.9 if still used mainly on the road

Thanks for the input guys ! much appreciated

okay so it basically it is 4.7 vs 4.9 then ! to be honest i still wanna keep my car reasonably road friendly.

The difference in the two isn't huge, use a gear calculator to show you the rpm at 70mph.
The 4.7 is actually 4.782iirc and the 4.9 is 4.928iirc?
So not as big a difference as you'd think.

If you use the car as a daily the 4.9 will get on your tits eventually. forever changing gears and always up in the RPM's. The 4.78 is ideal imo, not as long winded as the 4.4 and not as annoying as the 4.928 would be on a DD.

x 2 I second that

My ideal setup is 4.4 FD with Mfactory close gear ratio set

:damn2:
