Ok, I was playing around with Mfactory's calculator just to see where my setup was at compared to stock and also get some ideas for future mods to my gearbox.

As I input 4.4FD 8400rpm vs 4.785FD 9000rpm, I noticed that top speed had recovered a fair bit to compensate for the loss of top speed from the 4.785FD.

I mean, most of us have 9000rpm from generic/custom ECUs etc.

1. So, what does that graph tell us exactly?

2. Does the gap between the 2 lines mean the amount of acceleration we gained?

3. More power band? The Pink line I drew is at 6000rpm so we can see the difference in top end.

Mfactory?

Yes, by increasing your revs, you can basically "recover" back the lost top speed when you switch to a shorter final.

The graph is basically used as a tool to determine the speed of the vehicle at a certain rpm, and can be used to compare 2 different gearing setups side-by-side.

With regards to powerband, the graph does not show this as you can only calculate this in conjunction with a base run. This is actually a feature we are working on for the future though :)

You can actually view a pre-made graph of gearing vs power comparisons on our Final Drive and Close Gear product pages.

Yeh, since we're always used to looking at dyno graphs... this graph messes up my head a bit when I start to think about it.

I guess, as long as you have 9000rpm, then shortening your higher gears wouldnt affect so much after all. :D
