2015 Civic Type R takes on Nurburgring

Unfortunately times are changing. Emission standards are becoming more and more strict, safety standards also, client expectations about car looking faster than it really is and being comfy with sat nav, bluetooth and dishwasher in the trunk are rising. So I say don't be that negative. Especially having EP3 and of course FN2 in mind, that were not received well by many type r enthusiasts (FD2 however was a little bit different story). Maybe turbo will make it a little bit more exciting. For sure it won't be a race car but hopefully nice and fast daily ride with some track day ambitions.
I wonder if the JDM version will be different from the european.

Maybe I'm sounding negative about the car but I don't mean to be. I'm negative about wether it would fit my expectations :( Could be a great car but a comfy turbo cruiser just isn't my cup of tea when it comes to weekend cars so I hope it won't be that. Not because it's bad but because it's not my cup of tea.

It's already a shame that the redline is @ 7k rpm :( Revving the life out of it is all part of the Type R experience and makes it stand out. Teggies can do 8000+ rpm with a turbo so why not on this Type R? Would be proper madness and insanity and a VERY unique USP.

I'd question how long those turboed b18s last for though.

cant see me swapping the fd2 for one

Pretty sure that's just some crappy sound clip chucked on top of the video rather than an actual recording of the engine sound. Atleast I hope so!

Since the B18C they've had 12 years to develop something. I don't assume, I KNOW Honda has the knowledge to build something like that :) It's not like high revs and turbo bite eachother, is it?

No doubt they do have the ability to build an engine to do that but it all costs money to do, both in development and in materials to build the actual thing - especially to do it in a typical Honda over engineered fashion so that we still get that reliability and longevity people expect from a Honda. I would imagine if they had to add a grand or two on to the price then it would have a pretty dramatic effect on how many they would be likely to sell.

With the promo vid, I think that is the actual sound of the engine. There's a few amateur shot vids on youtube of it at the nurburgring and it sounds much the same. Just a test mule though, so it's possible they might put some work into tuning the exhaust note before they start selling them.

Haven't heard the exhaust note so can't comment on that - though I can really enjoy turbo burbles :) So if it's gonna be a turbo and not a high revving engine it might as well sound as a really mean one.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much considering the competition. Back in the time of the DC2 there just wasn't as much competition as these days.
