I've had this tucked away for a while now just waiting to sell the DC2 so that I could get started on it.
It's a red 1991 EE9(UK) Civic VTi 1.6 16v

As you can see from the pics it hasn't been on the road for quite a while. It has been dry stored for the last 3 years at least.
Bodywork wise its in great shape for a car of this age though one back arch needs a bit of work to make perfect.
I started it on Saturday for the first time in a few months to take it home from were it was being stored and the clutch was seized and the engine was running a bit lumpy, but I wasn't worried about this. You'll see why in a minute.

Got it home on the trailer, stuck a few things in the boot of the zafira and headed straight for Cookstown.
A week later and this is the result...

Thanks to Keith Smyth for putting the engine in and sorting out all the wiring and clutch conversion etc.

So as you can see there's now a jap DC2 engine in place of the old B16. In a car that weighs 850kgs this should be fun!

Rough spec so far :

1997 B18C DC2 Type R engine
S80 LSD gearbox 4.4FD
Spoon drop in cams
MFactory adjustable cam pulleys
Skunk 2 Inlet manifold
98 spec DC2 Exhaust manifold
AEM long arm induction kit
New head gasket, valve stem oil seals, timing belt and tensioner manifold gaskets etc
powerflow exhaust (to be changed)

That's it so far. I'm hoping to get the car home on Saturday so that I can get it ready for the road.
Plans at the minute are to sort the back arch and leave bodywork mint, get a 2.5'' exhaust system made up, paint the rocker cover, fit a full polybush kit to tighten everything up and possibly a set of Meister R coilovers if there are any funds left over.
Also planning to get it back on the original H reg which is stamped on every bit of glass in the car.

That's all for now, any comments and suggestions welcome.
Cheers.

finally got a chance yesterday to make a bit of progress on this.
so here it is in its new home for the next wee while over the pit in my workshop.

I started to fit the 98 spec exhaust manifold but there wasnt enough clearance between engine and subframe to get it in so i removed the subframe, cut a small section out of the rear lip, welded it back up and gave it a lick of paint. then fitted manifold and subframe.

Also put a new bonnet catch on and freed up the cable so thats another wee job sorted.
I had an old dc2 b pipe lying about so i tried it on and found that it follows the same path on the civic so i will just need to buy a dc2 exhaust and modify the backbox to run across the back bumper which is great.
waiting on a cv joint now and the car should be ready for a test drive :D

haven't had much time to work on this recently as I took a break for Christmas because I was scundered with it and then had exams for a few weeks but I took into it again last week and made a bit of progress.

The main thing frying my head was the driveshafts. the car was making a terrible vibration when driving and I finally diagnosed it as being the shafts, so I got a set of DC2 shafts, new CV boots, new gearbox oil seal and 3 litres of MTF3 and installed it all which sorted the vibration and was also a good upgrade as the DC2 shafts are a lot stronger.

The next thing I needed was a radiator as the old one was done. As I found out these are almost impossible to find but I got very lucky and found a Fluidyne radiator from an EF9 on ebay so I bought it along with a set of Samco hoses.

I also found a Nardi steering wheel and EF9 boss for very cheap so bought them and got them installed. Any opinions on this? I think its a nice touch.

I wasn't sure what way to go about the exhaust as I needed a 2.5'' system to match the 98 spec manifold but any ee/ef9 systems are 2'' max so I bought a 2.5'' Tanabe B pipe off a DC2 and adjustable decat and went about trying to make it fit. It was actually handier than I thought it would be, both B pipes follow the same route though the EE9 one is about 6 inches shorter so I had to modify the decat pipe slightly but when I did that it fitted perfect. I've got a straight through pipe to go in place of the backbox as it will be a lot easier to modify and fit across the back bumper than a box.

I also got 4 braces to tighten it up a bit. front and rear strut braces, C pillar brace and rear lower tie bar.

I don't have many pics of it all installed as my phone's actin up but I will get more at the weekend.

Here's a wee video I took with the exhaust on. It's still quite loud :D

That's pretty much all for now but I will have a major suspension update by the weekend hopefully!

Nice work so far mate, the nardi wheel suits that age of car very well. What size is it though it looks hudge!

Love this mate! Another crx or a ef civic is definitely next for me

nice one mate, looks class! must be minted if it has been in storage for that long :nice:

EE9's are 1020kg standard mate, so unless you have done some major stripping, it wont be 850kg!

Nice motor tho!

Love that shape civic, nice project dude. Love the video with no header :D

Regarding the weight, surely the B18C has added a bit of weight over the original engine.
Probably under a ton thats for sure but as above 850Kilos would require lexan windows, 1 seat, and no dash sort of strip job ...

thanks for the positive comments lads.
for those questioning the weight im just going by the weight stamped on the chassis. maybe im wrong but doesnt make a whole lot of dfference tbh.

You are wrong,
It would make a whole different if it weighed 25% less!
It's also not A type r

Lovely cars tho!

Obviously the weight will make a difference to the car lad I'm not stupid, what I meant was it doesn't make a difference to my project! I'm not building a stripped out track car so the weight isn't my top priority.
Also the car is powered by a type R engine so I'm calling it a type R, is that ok with you? thanks for your valuable contribution :nice:

awsome wee cars love them, good work so far lad... my dc2 trackcar with cage,2 seats weighed in at 950kg,anything under a tonne with 200bhp is goina shift, get a gearset in that box and ull have some serious fun lol

Cheers lad yeah it should go alright :D
What gear set would you recommend? 98 spec 1-2 and 96 spec 3,4,5 or aftermarket?

As promised major suspension update.
Arrived home today to 4 parcels, I was like a child at Christmas :D
