Gonna do a service soon.

I originally used 0W30 and then changed to a 0W40 oil.
Not sure if it's my imagination but I felt I lost torque using 0W40.

Anyway, I'm gonna go back to 0W30 and was just wondering why it costs £10 more.
I thought 0W40 protected more so should be the more expensive.

I wouldnt be using either TBH.

I use FUCHS super race titan 5w40. Was recommended to me by guy at opie oils, wasnt cheap but is a great oil.

My car ran so much better on 0W30.
Just going by experience.

I used last change 5W30 and prior to that 0W30 and to be honest with you I didn't feel much difference! :)

10w40 castrol does the job fine in any vtec honda

i tried mobil 5w30 and i was forever burning it, then i tried castrol edge 5w40 and that seemed better but made my b16b fairly noisy. now i run motul 300v 5w40 and my engine loves it, definatly sticking with motul from now on! :nice:

IMO when these engines were developed late 80's they used 10w40. So i would recommend this.
If you really want to go for a change then poss 5w40.

A lot of engines i have heard of that have broken were using something other than 10w40!

But what do i knnow!

Dunx

At my Honda Garage we only put 10w40 in them and I have only put it in my vtec engines.

Same with mine. Less wear and tear.
Thinner oils are much much more advanced and complicated to blend. Thats why its expensive.

Ofcourse you wont, but your oil would get to operating temps slightly quicker.

Its a trade-off performance / engine wear vs economy / longevity.

whats that supposed to mean? I'm afraid its more complicated then that!

Thats just coincidence. Thicker oils would provide more protection only at very high temps where the oil thins out to the point where its not working optimally. We are talking about 120C-150C.

Most track preped cars should and must have an oil cooler kit. Mine doesnt shoot above 90C on the track.

The fact that thicker oils take much longer to heat up to the optimal viscosity/temps on cold startup, theres more damage there especially for a street car.

5w40 or 10w40 for me. semi synthetic or fully synthitc oil is dependant on the end user and their requirements and/or restraints.

So let's say I have a ek3 standard engine and I have it as my daily and occasional vtec-e is engaged too so what oil would be bet suited?

IMO a 10w40 semi synthetic oil would be best. :secret: iirc its what honda recommends as well?!?
