£8000 for a pre-facelift EK9

Surely you have spent £8k+ on yours over the years ;)

Nope. For example my engine and gearbox had a recipt for £6100 with it but that was from Japan. I paid 2k for it :))

And only paid £4200 for the FL car with 50k on the clock!

I think the prices will rise again, last year dc2s dropped a bit due to dc5s becoming ever cheaper yet for a clean dc2 your still looking 4k and you can get a dc5 for 5.5k lol

i sold my 98 spec dc2 for £7500 a couple of years ago. dc5's were cheap last year, they seemed to have steadied and risen a little now. ek9's will hold around the 5-6k mark for good ones, eventually rising once they hit that 20 year mark.

I've used this exact advert to try and bump up my insurance payout (EK9 was stolen)

My insurance campany (Admiral) used a company called 'Cap' who specialise in the valuation of imported vehicles for the UK market. I managed to speak to them directly and they reckon a pre-facelift EK9 with 65,000 on the clock is worth £4650, as of October 2012.

I paid £5200 in April and still have a full Mugen twinloop in the garage I didn't get around to fitting, so not all that bad from my point of view! But I think £8k is waaaay too much!

I got £7000 for my preface lift ek9 with 84k on end of last year , my ek was extra clean the right car can fetch good money

And as said ek9s are already climbing in Japan,

I don't think the Japanese market has as much influence on the value of UK cars compared to the Irish market.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they will rise in time as they are a cult car, I just think at the moment they are dropping.

8k buys you a lot of car in today's market.

I think the problem with EK9s is that they are getting really old now and while a few years back almost all were in good nick these days there are loads of ropey ones floating around. That means that while the average price may be going down thanks to the sheer number of ''not so clean'' examples those cars that are actually immaculate will start rising in price soon. In all seriousness - I've been considering buying another EK9 to keep alongside mine which is a bit tatty and stripped out so not very valuable in terms of the future (I have no intentions of selling it so I don't care one bit, at least I can actually enjoy driving it...), put the second car back to 100% stock and lock it away for a few years. I bet that there will be time when seriously clean, original (not re-sprayed etc...), 100% stock EK9 will be worth in excess of £10 000. I also think the Jordans may go up in price as there will be less and less of them left on the road. Almost all cult cars end up being very expensive. About ten years ago I really wanted Datsun 240Z but did not have the cash to buy it and import it over to Europe. There were hundreds of them for sale thru-out US with the decent ones costing in the region of 3-4k USD. Have a look now, there will be a handful for sale and the 3k will buy you something that's falling apart and has half of the parts missing... If there has ever been a good time to buy a clean EK9 it's now, I think in a few years the tide will start turning.

Not worth 8k imo, i think maybe at some point in the near future this price will be reletive. 99+ ek9's and 98spec dc2's will always hold £5500+ in top condition. I think this figure will only rise in time.

I disagree.
Look at ef9s, they have suddenly gone through the roof.
And as said ek9s are already climbing in Japan,
It's just Ireland where they are suffering.
They still change hands here for £5k+ for really nice ones.

i can see this happening with the better cars

lots of paperwork, and not been passed around 20 owners

will fetch a premium

You'd be surprised at how expensive EK9s are in Japan as Jake says. When I visited Type One a few days ago I asked "If I lived here in Japan, how much should I expect to pay for a good EK9?" The guys I was speaking with said easily £7k for a tidy one. They said there really aren't many left now. So if you find a freshly imported perfect example for much less, start asking questions. Even at Spoon, they don't really have many EK9s in now, either as company run cars or customer cars, its mainly S2000s these days

I agree with jordans going up in price! Right now there dropping like dead flies in price but they are getting rarer by the day and eventually there will be a handful left which will mean top prices

See if I had an ek9 for sale, and of course if it's in decent nick, I'd have it up for at least 6 grand. Because if you sell it for around 3k. It will only be bought to be broken for parts because everyone knows what they parts are worth individually. This annoys me as well. But ah well what can you do
