Just thought I'd post a link up to my K20 EK9 project that I started. I'm getting an engine built for it - 89mm pistons, S2000 crank, customs cams, ITBs, custom header etc...

I actually built a K20 EK4 a year or so ago but blew it up at castle combe. Decided to cut my losses and broke it up and bought a DC5 which was a bit of a dissapointment!

Decided on another K20 conversion and EK9 was the best base vehicle.

However I ran the car as standard for 2 months and TBH, i was having second thoughts that I needed a K20 as the car was awesome - fantastic fun and the handling - sooooooo much better than a DC5 even on OEM struts

Anyway, here is the link. Should be fun when it's done:

PROJECT K20 MK2!

Very nice work !!

Good thing you used the EKK2 supports. It sets the engine a little further backwards for better weight distribution and better axle position.

Also very good solution for the power steering. Because that's always kind of an issue with K-swaps. What steering rack are you using then ?
Does the electric motor from the PS pump make a lot of noise, or is it ok ?

Nice self-made gear indicator man ! You must be quite handy with electronics. Very nice !

Will you keep ABS ?
What header will you be running ?
Are you gonna use K-pro ?

Yeh, I used Hybrid mounts last time and had a few issues with driveshafts (i.e. two snapped!) and the driveshaft angle was pretty severe so thought it best to go with EKK2.

Obviously you need an EG/DC2 subframe, rack, arms and forks to use the EKK2 mounts but it all bolts on fine (I used the DC2 setup with thicker ARB).

Rack is the DC2 rack - the pump acts just like an OEM one - just electric! You need to get a custom line made up to interface the pump with the PAS lines. It is quite noisy on full whack but I've put a 4QD controller in there so I can adjust the speed, the amount of assistance and the noise! I ran it on my old EK 20 and it was great.

Probably keep ABS for the mo.

Header is a custom Hytech - John has made it with all the specs of my engine.

ECU will be OBR EFI - real time mapping (unlike Kpro) but you need to mess around with the multiplex functions.

Is there anyway of keeping the standard power steering and not having to use a electric motor?

Its only because I'm using roller ITBs that I have to use another system - the (DC5) PAS pump would foul on the ITBs and the alternator mount needs to be lowered slightly. I could have used a normal plenum but then I'd lose 15hp and a load of torque.

Pic here shows how they would foul on the PAS pump (this was my old car!)

Gotta love that k20 all bundled up in there  Did you find the handling effected? hear people saying the handling aint great something to do with the engine sitting to far forward??

Is there much more work involved with changing the subframe from a eg or dc2 into the ek9 and can you keep your ek9 steering rack? What ecu you running it with?

Amazingly the subframe is a straight swap - bit tricky to fit mind!

You have to use the DC2/EG steering rack - EK one doesnt fit on the subframe.

Straight swap steering line wise though.

i remember you!!! i was there when your ek4 blew i heard a massive bang when i was in the paddock, it sounded like it hit the limiter then a crunch and a BANG!, went to investigate and i saw a guy with his head in his hands looked down the pit straight and saw bits of metal everywhere, and not to mention a nice trail of fluid!!
Anyways good luck on the k20 ek9 build, and don't blow it up!!!!

good to see you finally posted up mike :D be cracking to see this at the meets and flying around the roads.
i will be staying away from you though.lol dont quite want my ass handed to me on a plate. :D
