Rebuilt engine, slight loss of oil pressure plus other symptoms.

Change the filter aswell Jesse, then investigate the old one.

Out of interest did you check your ring end gap whilst inserted inside the cylinder bore?

I set the ring end gap, yes I checked them inside the cylinder, at the top and bottom of each cylinder with each ring.

Was 017" top ring and I think 020"2nd ring.
Alittle loose on wisecos suggested gaps but only by around 001" top and 002" bottom
Pretty sure the blow by is due to poor run in. As I mentioned before I had to idle for ages while I was diagnosing issues. I can sort that next winter, won't stop the engine running well enough for me to get it on track.

I'll sort the sump out aswell, didn't think it was right when I was washing it, looks flat and undented to me but I'll see what I can do, clearly it's not right.

Sounds grand mate, a little wont be bad by any means. Especially with a good breather set up.

Possible someone fitted the wrong sump at one point?

P72 sump iirc.
Been on the car years. I'll try and create some clearnace to sort that today. Hammer should do the trick lol

Sump was slightly bent, could see a raised spot in the light.
It's also had a whack at the front aswell, isn't too bad and I've knocked the bottom back out nicely now.
Can't cut filter open, my brother put it in the bin.

My dad always called it "the Russian spanner" lol

Really hope your engine survived without any major consequences Jesse, if it is of any consolation thanks to you I know what to look out for when I get around building an engine myself :p

Glad I could be of service! Lol

Make sure you flush it on a different filter than you intend to run on!

If there was enough metal to damage the oil pump, metal would have a better change to get to the filter. If it gets to the filter did it clog it up enough to use the oil bypass within the filter and start dumping oil with metal into the engine. If it did, then metal could make it up to the oil pressure bypass clogging it open causing oil pressure drop. But if it made it that far, I would call it game over as metal bits are in the engine.

I'd open it if I still had it.
Judging by what's in the sump and on the plug it wasn't much.

We'll see I suppose, I Defo think it's worth a shot with another pump.

The magnetic plug is good for getting larger bits that pass in the magnetic field of the plug but it will pick up very little in comparison to an oil filter.

Edit: Also doesn't pick up any aluminium

Ive found 3 filters in the garage, all used but pot luck as to which is the last one lol

Once you cut one open, be sure to note which side of the filter paper the metal is on, only on one side is good, on both not good.

I'll give it ago abit later on.
I've not found any metal anywhere other than the sump plug and oil pickup so far.
If got 3 and they are all mixed up so lottery for which one it actually is!

Just giving some advice above. Hope it helps.

Worst case without opening the filters up is that you install a new oil pump and it fails again. Not a big deal.

I've got spare time today. Will get them opened up.

Got two of the filters open. One I know isn't the filter im after so tossed it.
BOTH filters have metal caught in the OUTER filter mesh but none in the INNER mesh.
What's up with that? As far as I'm aware the oil comes up the centre of the filter and out the edges right?
Can it even work backwards?
Surely I'd have it on the inside aswell.
