Willwood brake upgrade. Anygood?

No information to what Pads used or what rear Brake setup is on the car?

Reference from k20a.org:

Yea, the whole package seems kinda weak for my application. Rotors are .81 inches thick and i`m not sure the dynalite can take a thicker disc. Pads are wilwood, not sure of the compound but they work fine throughout the temp range.

Rotors last about 15 minutes before overheating and it takes a lap or two to cool down. Didn't have this problem with my training wheels (215-45-16 hankook rs2) but the added grip of the new ones shines a bright light on the brake setup. Currently on a 225-50-16 rs3 with plans to move to a bigger size rcomp after sorting out a few things and refining the setup.

Definitely using ducts. 3 inch hose from an opening in the front lip and blowing directly at the centre of the rotor.

Driver habits have a ton to do with what is going on I am sure.

And 20mm thick rotors on a car which has 25mm thick ones as standard won't help either.
The off-the-shelf Wilwood setup comes with 309x20 rotors.
The kits we do either run with the standard 282x25mm or 298x32mm setups. They cope with the heat far better.

Worth noting all our Wilwood kits are custom made, all we use from Wilwood are the calipers, and in the case of the 298/309x32mm kits we also use their rotors. We don't buy off-the-shelf kits to sell on.

Haha, 20mm discs, I didn't see that bit.

Now wonder they over heat. Even the weedy 262mm brakes are 21mm thick...

Im running 282x25mm with ds2500 at the moment it no problem at all, next i will try ds3000 and see.

Why would a company sell 20mm disks with their kits in the first place? Hummm? Because they dont care and are trying to move inventory? Hummm sounds like a winner brand to me.

I had 280x20mm 2 piece discs on my MX5 track car with Dynalites and it stopped juuust fine :) It was only 130bhp though.
I guess the question should be why someone is fitting the kit to a 230whp car?
What's the DA power output as standard? 140hp?
The guy has dropped a K20 in there so obviously has some idea about cars but didn't look at the OEM discs (242x20?) and think he might want something a little thicker than that?
You have to do a bit more work than buying a part off the shelf which just bolts onto your car when your car isn't exactly OEM anymore.

FreakyParts, post up a pic of your kit for sale! :)
I think we all would like a peek at it.

How much?
Looking at hispec billet 4pot m16 calipers for 282mm x23mm disc

That one is £869 plus shipping and doesn't clear OEMs but we do a kit which uses the smaller Midilite calipers and bolts upto OEM 282s and clears OEM 15" alloys. That one is £579 plus shipping.
If you're interested in either now let me know as I'm ordering some this week and could knock a few ££ off the price, or upgrade the pads to DS2500s FOC :D

In fact, as you've just ordered some bits from me, I'll do a better deal for you if you're happy to fire over a deposit this week :nice:

I've paid for discs buddy
when will they arrive?
Thanks!

FreakyParts, what other brake setups do you have up for sale? You seem to have some killer stuff. Info and pic request!!! ;)

Depends on budget really.
We can supply Brembo, AP Racing, Wilwood and custom kits if you have a set of calipers lying around.
We're currently doing a kit for a customer (member on here) who acquired a set of radial mount Brembo calipers which appear to be of the Aston Martin/Ferrari 360 variety to bolt to his EK9 with a set of 300x25mm 2 piece rotors.
I'll post up some pictures when it's completed in the next week or 2.
