why are imports more to insure? especially JDM imports because they are right hand drive too?

Harder to get specific parts to repair them if damaged (just had to wait a couple of weeks for a new set of rear lights to come from Honda), more desirable so more likely to get nicked, not always as well built in terms of crash safety etc

oh right, cheers :) i was just thinking whats the difference between japanese and british cars? thanks

Because insurers are conmen and can charge what they like?

they usually have poorer security to uk spec cars(ie no imobiliser, crap alarm etc), bigger target for thevies and joy riders, more expensive parts/harder to get parts and mostly owner by young male drivers, the biggest insurance risk catagory there is!

its because in the eyes of the insurers they are made to look like boy racers cars, and the fact that they are imports looks as if they are tuned as well. at the end fo the day they are only 1.6's and on the other hand are alot more to insure than a jordan which only has around 30bhp less

You are talking to the wrong insurers, speak to a specialist like my company and you'll pay the same for an import as you would for a UK car.

Interesting, so you can insure UK and JDM DC2s at the same price? What about RX7s?

yes and yes, in some cases if the import has no security we may ask for this to be fitted but this depends on the risk presented.

This man speaks the truth, sky quoted just under half what my previous insurers wanted for the EK9
