I'm about to get some new brakes, I got some EBC blanks priced up at £85 and was told thats expensive, and that APEX make the discs for EBC!
I thought EBC make their own stuff....
Anyway, the APEX discs are half the price at £45 a pair.

What do you guys have to say?

cracked a set of apex discs in a couple of weeks on my ek9, just road use!

also destroyed a set of ebc slotted&dotted type discs on my itr,

both brands are crap.

dont waste your time, get something a bit better, mintex blank discs have never failed me, and wont break the bank.

Mixed reviews on the EBC stuff.
I am deffo going for the EBC Blanks though.
But I wanted to know if the above was true....

As for pads I maybe going for the Mintex 1155 or Ferrodo ds2500.
Staying 262mm on my ITR.

EBC pads i would never use, the bedding in material thing they use is a stupid idea and i have heard numerous bad things about them.........

EBC blank discs are a good option, i run a set on the front of my car and also fitted a set to the front of my sisters golf GTi and they do seem good quality

Why dont people just use Honda parts?

Well EBC are as good. And a tad cheaper too.
So obviously Im gonna go for EBC...
But yeah as said in 1st post, I just wanted to see if it was true, because its half the price.
Im starting to think its not true so will end up buying the EBC at £85

:nice:

i would go ferodo, used them round the ring in germany, didnt have any problems, there still going strong

if your going to use mintex pads use mintex discs if you can, 1155 are overkill for road and need to be warm to work well, 1144's are plenty enough and good when cold.

Are you sure??

The root problem is that 262's aren't up to the job on an ITR, plain & simple. They overheat with serious use causing fade & a long pedal when the excessive heat has nowhere to go & transfers to the fluid & boils it

If i was doing to spend money on brakes then a larger disc size would be maximum priority...

EBC discs are "OK", but steer clear of the pads IMO.

"you pay peanuts, you get monkeys" as they say. No point scrimping on braking components!

ebc is part of freeman automtive group.. wouldn't recommend their turbo grooves or their green or redstuff pads took me a year to get a refund on 2 sets of discs and the pads all had their friction material let go of the backing plates ditto for black diamond predator pads... went back to boggo mintex's and never had a problem again.

I have used EBC blanks on several occasions and I find when fitted at the same time with new pads I use Ferodo DS2500 pads, bed them in together really well. They are excellent for the money.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Yep, I head lots of good things about that setup.
So I'll just get that and see how it goes.
Good info Chrismc but i dont have the monies to do the bigger brake conversion, maybe next time...

Oh Tim, why did you show me that lol.
Brembo blanks cost...?
If I remember right, Brembos are stupid prices.

They were £45 from my local motor factors. Part no 09.6893.10

Honda HR-V fitment IIRC, but the same 282mm disc.

Brembos are hard to find in my fitment, 96 spec itr 4 stud. Actually my cars brakes are hardly ever listed on websites :(
