Right,

don't actually know where to start, i have been an owner of a Type rx ek9 for over a year now, it's been through hell and back a few times now and just recently the engine has developed a knocking noise :angry2: Just the other day as i was coming home from work on the M1 it died.... not the place to be at 2am. Luckily hate a mate tow it back and now in need of some advice/options.

I think the car has now had it, i don't want to get rid of her but thinking it's time for her to go, would it be best to get her working again or just leave to break her up and sell in parts? Which would make more money?

Any help would be grateful. Thanks

what year , mileage on the clocks . wat condition is the car in .

it's a V reg, mileage on clock says roughly 55 i think and condition clean apart from the back cuz some women went into the back of her. Will post some pics of the car in a min.

It dying at 55k must mean it hasn't been looked after. Maybe not you, but the previous owner in Japan.

i would have thought it would be better to get it up and running agen!
Dont think you would get the same money breaking it up!
why dont you just replace the full engine and save time and money?????

Been looking for a replacement engine, but really pricey. Found a B18 just the block for about £600 from jap performance and i'm sure i can use the same head, sump and gear box. My mechanic is going to open her up and find out the cause, had the top cover off and nothing seems to be off there.

Would it be better to change the block instead of changing one piston?

I think the clock could have been turned back quite a bit. might be much more than 55k

The clocks on there are different, the ones i had at the time of the crashed stopped working the actually mileage of the car is 70k thought the guy was interested in the clocks.

I do like the car and after having a drive in my mates vti-s made me miss her even more.

So conclusion is to find a replacement b16b or i know jap performance parts have a b18 bottom block from an early jdm itr dc2. What i'd like to know is if i just get that bottom block will it run with the rest of my b16b parts? I have a lightened flywheel and stage 1 clutch, 4-1 manifold and spoon ecu?

I also wanted to know if the pistons on the early jdm itr are they forged and would i get any more headache from swapping them over i.e. ek9 ecu revs to 8900rpm would they stress out the itr pistons?

Thanks for all the help so far!

does anyone have a spare engine for sale? :)

do you know the exact cause of the knocking yet or just guessing?

i would remove the sump, remove the big end caps and check the bearings and journals on the crank before anything else, also check the conditions of the mains,

i would consider trying to repair your engine if it was me, look into getting over size bearings and having a crank re grind, also change oil pump, seals etc

do you know if your compression is ok? if it is then your pistons and rings should be fine, so no need to even remove the head, just take the engine out, turn it upside down and strip out the bottom end and see what you have.
