Just wondering what fuel everyone use's in there EK9? I used to always use Shell V-Power and nothing else but recently i've started putting in Tesco 99. I don't know if i'm just imagining it but it feels like the car runs a lot better than it did on the V Power.

Does anybody else think this?

Slightly off topic,

But i find Shell fuel better quality.

I put 35 of Shell normal unleaded into the car and managed 270miles or mixed driving,

1 Week later, I put 35 of Tesco normal unleaded, and only covered 230 miles.

Thats in a 1.4 EJ9 Civic.

Drove roughly the same route as i did the previous week.

Anyone else ever noticed this?

Haha i'm the total opposite in my EK9

Interesting topic.

I always run Shell Optimax as its the nearest garage and 99RON fuel . I did used to have this worry about supermarket fuel thinking it was cheaper for a reason (lesser quality) - but I have since dismissed this theory as I found out that all the fuel comes from the same place! Just the minerals and additives are different (much like oils).

Also to note; a local garageup the road did a test (rolling road) and found out the best fuel was BP Ultimate which gave him a staggering 23 BHP more. But when you think about is thats on a "turbo'd" car and its around 450 BHP, so in comparison I cant imagine the fuel's will be affecting our N/A cars that drastically.

Josh..

i go with the octane i normally fuel up shell 95 and weekend 99 i also fuel up at tesco and asda, asda have some sort of cleaning detergent in their fuel whihc i have notice a smoother ride

Usually I go with any Top Teir Gasoline available in town. For those of you that have never heard of Top Teir Gasoline here's a brief insight.

"TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Six of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.

Since the minimum additive performance standards were first established by EPA in 1995, most gasoline marketers have actually reduced the concentration level of detergent additive in their gasoline by up to 50%. As a result, the ability of a vehicle to maintain stringent Tier 2 emission standards have been hampered, leading to engine deposits which can have a big impact on in-use emissions and driver satisfaction.

These automakers have raised the bar. TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces engine performance. Thats something both drivers and automakers want to avoid."

Of course this info applies to the U.S./Canada but possibly in other places as well, don't know how it is in other countries. 93 Octane is the highest available in Texas so that's what I go with.

maxol E5 unleaded!! as far as i know all maxol garages use 97/98 octane as standard unleaded??

i used to use v power all the time in my starlet, but being unable to get it a couple of times i had to use 2 others, first was bp ultimate, whch gave me twice 50km more out of a tank, i have also once used total excelium which gave me 75km more from a tank over v power! pretty impressive i thought.

petrol is **** its mixed with 5% bio fuel i noticed my car get spluttery and bogging alot filled up with texaco and car was fine:angry:

most of us tuners here in canada only use supreme plus (94 octane) from chevron :)

all you guys are lucky.
:(
all i can find here where i am in the states is 91 octain.

B16A2 in my EJ6. I typically only put Shell V-Power 93 AKI (equivalent to 98-99 RON) in it. I don't think I've put a different brand fuel in it in 9 or 10 months.

Resurrection on this one.

I located a place to buy "race" fuel.
Everything from 95 to 100 octane is available.
[ at European price per-gallon to boot! ]

Should I be aware of anything prior to using
these higher octane levels after using 92 for months?

:thanks:
