Whales P*nis or AEM V2?

V2 all the way. Currently running one and ran one on my old EJ9, brilliant kits.
It's pretty obvious to not accelerate through a puddle or on mega rainy days, common sense really.

Js whale pecker with custom airbox with a cold air pipe feeding it:nice:

Had this setup on the crx before i went boost.

overpriced.

...But the best. No worries about puddles etc like the v2, and no worries of heat soak like the whale nob! The v2 does sound the tits though, almost as good as the mugen! If I wasn't lucky enough to find a 2nd hand mugen for cheap, then I would say a Taylor fitted dc2 set up with the stock ek9 intake pipe. Failing that don't tegiwa do replicas of the mugen?

I am running a Top Fuel Carbon power chamber intake and its great. Its what my tuner recommended and its given me great gains. Runnin a 90mm cold air feed to it.

Also had the J's and it sounded great but had massive heat soak. Also had OEM EK9 and DC2 airboxes. They were good but not as good as my current set up.

Any pics of the cold air feed setup to top fuel??

I seen that you made a good gain switching from the dc2 box when henry recommended it. I was under the impression that the top fuel kit wasnt great for power but henry knows his stuff! I had my EK9 mapped by him aswell

Found the V2 to be a waist if money. Car made more noise but felt a bit flat. Fitted my std Airbox back on with a small air feed and KnN found it to pull much smoother and harder.

Now gone for the mugen box. Can't beat it.

The further away you put the intake filter from the throttle body the more work the engine had to do to such air through the system. Also upsetting the natural air velocity pulses of the engine.

Generic 3" sort intake pipe with 3" velocity stack + 6" filter combo. Its proven itself time and time again on b16/b18 to make power over every intake on the market. Tuned length helps though, I saw on the dyno more power and smoothest powerband when I lengthen the tubing more.

Personaly I dont rate dyno figures at all. Not really the same as a car flying along a road or round a short track with high engine bay temps.

Cant see a basic cone and pipe out performing a big cone encased in a double skined carbon box onto a big velocity stacked 3" pipe also piped with a cold air feed from outside the engine bay.

May suck more air in sat on a dyno but in the real world I would take the carbon air box any and every day of the week.

The problem with airboxes is that you cant tune the length of the pipe which is very important . The only airbox that's performs good is mugen cos the velocity stack but all airboxes like tegiwa or mugen are very pricey. With the 1/3 of the money you can have an intake that performs the same even better. The secret of an intake that make power its the length of the pipe and the velocity stack thats why all N/A drag cars uses this setup and not an aibox.

The guy is after the perfect alround daily driven setup.

Not a drag strip setup tuned to work in a specific rev range.

Yea I will get pics up this weekend mate. its just a simple neoprene pipe about a metre long, joined to a air duct which is moulded to the front bumper.

Yea Henry is brilliant. I just let him do away and fit what he knew was best and I wasnt dissapointed! :nice:

Yea I notice your power figures are basically same as mine so just shows how evenly matched our cars would be! :)

pics of my set up. Sorry but excuse the dirt, its pretty messy weather here in Edinburgh today! :(

Nothing fancy, car is very responsive, no heat soak and sounds good too! :)
