Well, the website was down almost for 2 days.

Yesterday I entered my web hosting home directory, and all my data was gone, I mailed my provider... well and too make it short I had to pay 150 $ for a backup restore of all my data on my hosting account.

If you can help me out to pay this I really will really appreciate this.

You can donate via paypal here:

:nice:

Thank your for your support :thanks:

Invoice of the provider.

:wow: send the link :wow:

maybe you should sign up and give em a piece of your mind on there (no foul language though, it's a family friendly forum).

Yeah there was a weird page there for a few hours, I must have just tried to log in right after it happened. The next day I was getting a 403 forbidden plus a 404 on something else.

damn, :nerv: I'll have to update the forum or something :(

yeah, One of the besttechie members said that you didn't have the site locked down or something. You might wanna talk to him and some others on there about site security.

:nerv: can you ask for me? for some reason my internet connection sucks today it takes ages to load that page :nerv:

well, it may be that you are in Guatemala while Besttechie.net is based out of New York (or at least the owner of the site is, I'm not exactly sure where the server is).

Hope the changes I made now, help with the vulnerability issue

OK, I made a thread on there.

Since you said you had some trouble loading the site, I'll just go ahead and quote the responses.

There are some simple ones, such as keep software up-to-date, change default passwords, etc. Security is very dynamic. Does he know how his site was exploited? How much of the site did he write himself? How much is software-based? Did he write anything using SQL?

Edit: Just doing a quick search, I can pull up many security holes in his current forum software. According to their website, the latest update is 3.6.8 Patch Level 2. He needs to have that.

VBulletin has been a easy mark for a "Inlinemod.PHP SQL Injection" exploit in the past. The older version was so easy to access it was just a matter of typing some code into the login. Like Matt said just keep the software up to date.
