Water leaking into car

The past couple of weeks I have noticed that the passenger side front floor mat and carpet have been damp after heavy rain. I lifted the carpet to find a lot of water underneath it. It looks as if the water is running down the back of the ecu from higher up. I ran water from a hose all over the windscreen, wiper panel, etc. I got a small bit of water getting into the car but I'm still not completely sure where exactly it is getting in. Does anybody have any ideas or has anybody had similar problems? Cheers.

you have a water drain tube above the ECU that is used to drain water from sunroof to the wheel , a few years ago i´ve noticed the same problem as you and it was that tube disconected from a rubber piece that conects to the wheel...

If its type r then it won't be the sunroof pipes.

It's quite common and a bit of an arse to fix. Underneath the dash where the a pillar joins the chassis the silicon is very poor and tends to leak. You need to remove the glove box, heater and aircon box and a few other bits then get the silicon gun up inside and cover it everywhere along the join.

No more leaks for me! And I had an inch of water in the passenger foot well and rear passenger footwell.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

I can pm you my no. And talk you through it when you are doing the job.

Cheers Ian

Look for rubber gromits or if a SUB in the boot has been installed or in past they may have cut new hole or pushed it though (wire for it not the sub lol)

Cheers mate but it's an Ek9 so no sunroof. Thanks though.

There are no holes or rubber grommets for anything like that. Everything looks as it should from the factory. Appreciate the help though.

Hi Ian.

This sounds like it could be the problem because I can't see where the water is getting in but I'm able to see where it is going. And from what you have described on your car it seems to be the same problem as what I have. I have a good idea of exactly where you are talking about but haven't got a machine to remove the air con gas from the car if I have to remove the air con box. Is there anyway of doing the job without taking the air con box out? How long do you reckon it would take to do the job?

I appreciate the advice.

Graham.

Glad you posted this up as my passenger footwell resembles a swamp at present - not so happy about prospect of curing it however as I dont have anything better than a drive to work from.

tail light gaskets maybe? water can move from the back to the front of the car during braking.

That's the only time ive ever had a leak in the civic, replaced the gaskets and no longer had a problem.

Dunno tbh?

If I had a toasty warm barn sized garage to work in I'd get it sorted in a jiffy, but at present I'm going to dry it out with a dehumidifier and buy a cover to keep the rain out until I can fix it in the spring.
