Was bored in work so...

Wow that's a shitty thing to do. Kozy once I have my EJ how I want it aesthetically I'd like to get into contact with you about getting a green backlit one of these done up (will be a while but I like YOUR product).

No worries. Yet to sort out an edge lit base kit for those, been busy drawing up an old 1980s McLaren F1 car at the moment for a chap who's paid double to have it done ASAP!

I also did an S2000. After 5 minutes, I had a wheel.

After about 6 hours:

Anyone can download an image, put some dimensions and a few bits of text on it, sure. But that's not what I am doing, and that's not what people are paying for. :nice:

Toda vs tegiwa all over again lol

Business is business, is a shitty thing to do but if no one ever did things like this we would all be paying silly money for everything. Competition is good for the consumer as it drives the price down.
Tbh kozy shouldn't really be surprised about it as it was bound to happen with such a decent idea, all you can do is either improve your product further or make it cheaper if you feel your in competition with this guy?
If you don't feel like your in competition then all this is irrelivent and you should carry on with your idea.
Personally I prefer kozys design but feel it could be alittle cheaper than it currently is, although I don't know the amount of work that goes into them.

Some people think it's only worth £20.

Try writing a business plan around that.

Lol I don't think it's worth £20 but £125 you was asking is alittle steep for me.
Perhaps doing group buy or forum discounts will help.
I'd pay probably £100 if I knew I was getting a quality product(which im sure it is)
This is a civic forum after all, we perhaps aren't as flush as say a skyline forum. I think you'd have a better market with classic cars? Jag e-type etc these guys have some cash to spend and will pay what your after easy I think.

No that was someone on the ATR forum.

They are £100 now, I am mostly aiming at higher end marques as you say, it's going pretty well at that price point.

There is also a group buy option on Kickstarter, £75 each if 10 people want variations of the same car done. :nice:

Well that sounds perfectly reasonable.
I do want an ek9 done at some point, although im torn between my old crashed ek9 and the current turbo build ATM.
How is the kick starter going?

Been running about 12 days and 36% funded. Got some magazine features coming out over the next couple of weeks which I'm hoping should boost it quite nicely!

How long is it allowed to run? I do want one but as I said I'm torn between which one I want lol

It runs until the 5th May, but I'll be doing the KS rewards for some time so you'd have aaaages to make your mind up if you need it! :nice:

Uh huh, really sounds like it too. I'm glad all your chums over there think I'm a total prick for thinking such a simple, lousy idea up or thinking that it could ever be a 'big business' (I don't by the way, but it might be a small one :) ). They sound like a lovely bunch. Fortunately, they didn't seem that interested anyway, so no real loss.

I'm not really sure that being called a prick is justified though. I've acknowledged that you're free to do these, anyone can download a line drawing and make it look like a technical drawing, and anyone with a laser machine can make them.

They take time to do properly though (those downloadable vector drawings are not brilliant quality usually, that's why I'm not using them), and having worked out the costs involved I know that they can't be sold as a viable product for £30, so I can't see anyone realistically being bothered to go to the effort I have. You've already stated you don't have the time to do these in any volume, so I'm not really that fussed.

I've lowered my prices down to the minimum point that it is worth my time doing them. If people want to support the originator, that's awesome. If they'd rather have a cheaper copy, or have the means to make their own, that's cool too. They probably weren't going to buy one of mine anyway.

I'm not 'searching out every thread' either dude. People have seen me doing these, and have PM'd me when they saw you doing the same thing. I wouldn't have honestly noticed or cared otherwise. It was only when you hinted at making them for other people, that I thought it was a bit lousy on your part.

I like the suggestion to sabotage my Kickstarter with a competing one too. Lovely. :D

no body called you a prick? i am aware to do a version with specific details would in fact take longer to do (time i do not currently have to run as a business....) I work in a sign makers as a graphic designer and have access to a whole host of equipment, edge lit led perspex is no new technology. Best of luck in what you do. Some one else will be along with a more affordable product, that's the way of the world.

Total helmet was the actual term I think. :naughty:

I think this has all got blown out of proportion. I know someone will be along to make a cheaper product, that's the way of the world as you say. The reason for me running Kickstarter is simply to get set up with my own equipment so that no-body else will have a significant advantage in producing an equal product, all they'll be able to do is reduce the profit margin.

It might not be anything profoundly new, anyone that works in CAD, graphic design or with a laser machine will know that, but it's novel enough that it's received almost entirely positive feedback (aside from on CorsaSport anyway :p) on the wider scale.

Still think it's lousy dude. Kozy is a member here who, sure, has his own little business starting up doing these and sure, it's an idea that could be fairly easy to come up with, but the thing is, Kozy also provides us shed loads of FREE tools which helps people on here decide on how to go about tuning their cars. I'm sure people have seen the links he puts up and know just how useful they are.

Out of respect, I personally wouldn't have even hinted at passing these on to other people or starting your own kickstarter project. Coulda offered a partnership with him which could've been beneficial to both parties.
Instead you've just caused friction.

Not having a pop (although I am a little) but dick move dude. d i c k mooove.

In Lee's defence, he did primarily post these threads as a 'Look what I did', rather than 'look what I am selling'.

It was only others asking whether he could do others who got people flagging up the threads to me, and I can't blame him for considering it. After all, it is a great idea... :D

Now escalated to being called a ****. Excellent. :D

Kozy just know that the ones who go to you will be wanting the real deal. Think of it this way, being copied is a compliment, someone clearly likes what you're doing so much to the point that they try it themselves.

Much like Takata harnesses. The genuine item is nothing short of amazing.
The replicas can be a close copy, but never quite the real deal, not as refined and the quality just isn't there

:)

It's cool. I don't think we need to say any more on it.

I have no beef with Lee, as I know the idea will be copied anyway. I was just surprised to see it coming from the same forums that I've been a member of for years, and so early on.

It's the hostility from the guys on CorsaSport I don't understand.

I've been called a helmet, a c*nt and a pen!s. Recurring theme emerging?
