Vtec problem

I've got an annoying problem with my vtec. I get the car all warmed up to temperature before it gets any proper revs, but when it is properly up to temperature there is no vtec. If I then turn the car off for about 30 seconds (after its already hot),then switch it back on,vtec works fine. It's really bugging me!

Any help would be appreciated!

also try an oil change. solonoid can get sticky. def recommend an oil change no matter what if that doesnt cure it could be the solonoid.

No fault codes. There's plenty of oil and it's new oil because its only been in for 3 weeks ha. Do you think cleaning the filter screen on the solenoid gasket could help?

is the vtec screen clean?
What oil pressure are you getting?

Could be a dodgey temp sensor.

I've swapped the temp sensor for another know working one, didn't help. Ill clean out the filter screen and if that doesn't work check my oil pressure. Just wanted to know if the lee was any common problems, just sounds electrical to me.

I took the solenoid off tonight, stipped it down and clean it out, checked the solenoid operated on our solenoid tester at work, all seemed okay, was a tad dirty though. Put it back on the car but no,still the same. I tried to get oil pressure reading but the gauge read zero at all revs, so I thought it maybe wasn't hot enough so I took it for a drive and made sure vtec was working,on my way back to the garage with the revs around 8k vtec stopped and the management light came on (solenoid code). Cleared the codes and its back to normal again.

So im now thinking its the vtec solenoid itself is a bit temperamental and needs replacing, anyone agree or disagree?

Solenoid valve assembly stripped down.

If you tested the solonoid and it was ok, I would be looking at oil pressure.
You need to see atleast 50psi at 3k revs hot.

It operated on out machine but it's maybe intermiantly sticky. Should there be pressure there all the time or only when the solenoid is active?

You should be making readable oil pressure on idle (also when cold idle pressure is higher than warm idle as the oil is thicker).

What range does your gauge read and where are you fitting it for a reading?

If you not making oil pressure VTEC is the least of your worries so start there. ;)

Have you check for continuety in the loom between the solenoid and ecu?
Where were you taking your oil pressure reading from?

I was taking my readings from the test port at the front if the head,it's just around the corner from the solenoid just like 10mm down from the cam cover (where the Haynes manual says to). I tryed 2 different gauges and there was no pressure reading at all,I an doing something wrong? Ha. Yeah I checked continuity, voltage and resistance where the manual said and everything seems fine

That's the wrong port, the engine oil pressure should be checked from the oil light switch port on the back of the block next to the oil filter, the one you were testing only shows pressure in vtec

Also which temperature sensor have you checked, if my memory is correct there are 3
