Having a problem with vtec... cars been off the road for 9 months went out a drive other week there only to find vtec not working.

The TPS sensor was borrowed from my car when it was off the road and replaced with another item, now the CEL light is on.

I linked out the connector below passenger side and I got 7 short flashes which happens to be TPS fault.... the car seems to idle/rev fine, but ill have to test TPS with a volt meter.

?? Would the TPS sensor being faulty/not set right make vtec not work, or as the ecu is reading a fault its in a limp mod as such??

?? How do i go about clearing the fault once i fix the TPS or will it clear itself?

Anyone any info?

What exactly happens when vtec is suppose to engage (im not sure if you have changed the point) does it just splutter? Could be simple thing like the plugs or leads given its been sitting up! Not to sure about the tps sensor maybe someone else can let you know if that could be it!

Disconnect battery for 5 or 10 min to clear the fault,i think

Vtec will not engage no matter what the problem is when the CEL is on.

Vtec engaged evry time in mine with the Cel light on wen my 02 sensor was goosed.

If your getting codes for tps check that first, will also allow you to rule it out

Ah lol. Well when my speed sensor died my vtec wouldn't engage. Also had another engine light which stopped it from engaging but never found what it was.

Thought it may have been a safety feature. My bad.

Right bit of an update, tested the TPS the day between red wire and ground, with the throttle body closed, reading came up practically 0..... 0.006V.... States on the net reading should be. 0.5V with throttle body closed....
So does this mean the TPS is goosed?? Or can you move the TPS about to change the voltage?

It just reved on passed 6K with vtec not engaging....

Without sounding like a tit, but was it up to temperature? It wont engage vtec until its up to temp and there is sufficient oil pressure.

yes you can move the TPS as it has 2 slotted holes where it mounts,i presume you have proper screws on there now as you said you changed it?

TPS comes with tamper proof fittings from factory as you know so if its never been changed it cant be adjusted and shouldnt need to be.

You aint that much out on reading but i would adjust to see if there is any change.

goodluck.

TPS has torque bolts so easy to take off.

Right tried adjusting this the night, no matter how much/little I moved the TPS the reading stayed 0.006V..... but with the throttle body wide open there was a slight movement in the scale... highest reading a could get was 3.45V.

Does this mean TPS needs replaced??

I replaced my thermostat since the car was used alot and vtec works after 10 minutes, try that :)
