Hi Guys,

Just wondering if any of you have used VTEC controllers before and if so what are the pros and cons.

Thanks.:thanks:

Bad, Honda spent alot of time devoloping "VTEC" and it cuts in at the revs Honda thought best... Leave it where it is unless you've got a seriously modded engine ;)

Yea I thought as much too. I was just wondering would there be that much of a difference if the VTEC kicked in at about 5000 RPM.

you wont get the same kick at 5000rpm vtec as you would at 6000rpm..
at 5000rpm would be alot weaker and bad fuel economy
honda know what they were at,so leave it be imo

guys when you buy a hondata or a aftermarket ecu the vtec point is lower than stock ...
when you want performance you must admit and sacrifice some fuel etc...

Yeah, but on a stock engine you will not only lose on mileage but also on power and driveability. Lowering of VTEC engagement must be done in combination with a proper remap with at least some mild breathing mods. Otherwise you will lose power.

And that's why the controllers aren't so usefull; when you've got a mappable ECU you can adjust the VTEC point on the ECU and you don't need the seperate controller.

:nice:
I agree 100% It all depends on how your engine is setup.

Honda also spent a lot of time on marketing. It is known that they deliberately set the VTEC engagement point artificially high so you'd get that "boost" feeling.

A properly tuned Bseries VTEC car will feel slower because the transition ought to be seamless and it should only be audible.

Every PROPERLY remapped B-VTEC should have a very smooth looking graph that doesn't have a dip and then a crazy spike when VTEC engages.

This is all from the several Hondata talks I've been lucky enough to attend at SEMA.... a vtec controller is not useless, but the effort involved in making it work properly is likely not ideal and you would be better off starting with a remap.

waste of money imo
get chipped ecu
tuned on crome, ectune, hondata
etc.

just sold mine. the only thing i like about them was it look nice. so imo its only a bling bling factor.

what about the neo v-tech controller this let you play with the fuelling aswel is this ok as you can remap your car with them.

I dunno about vtech....sounds like a decent phone controller if anything....

The problem with fuel/vtec controllers in a single piggyback unit is

1) they can't control ignition timing - this is crucial to extract the most out of your setup

2) they aren't able to add fuel over a certain percentage because it tricks the MAP sensor into reading a different column. If you try and forcefully add more fuel, it will cause the MAP to go crazy and throw a code 3

The only way to overcome that is to add an FPR and use the vtec controller to reduce the extra fuel you've added via manual means.

It's not a true remap if you can't control the ignition timing nor increase the rev limiter.

as above its a waste of time, if you want a remap get a remap no point pissing about with half assed solutions,
