VTEC and rev limiter problems

My friend has got a B16B and on Sunday a coolent hose split obviously made quite a scene.

We pulled over right away and the engine temp was nearly to the top but not quite.

We fixed the pipe and made sure everything was topped up then went for a drive. Temp is fine engine runs fine but VTEC don't engage and the car is like it hits a rev limiter at around 7000rpm. The engine check light has been on since the over heating issue. It's a facelift EK.

The pipe that blew is not the two pipes that come off the rad but the pipe that goes back on itself from the engine. It's sprayed straight up hitting the distributor cap which we covered up ASAP.

Can anyone help out here and if its bad put say it gently lol.

Thanks

You will have to get the CEL (fault) code, do a search on here to find out how

if the check engine light is on. The vtec wont kick. You will need to pull out the codes and fix first. that is a protect system from the ecu to prevent more damage.

The fault code is P1253

Car has 150% never been run low on oil

I have been advised in doing a engine change and putting some flush through stuff in there with a new oil filter

Then the more likely I think as the water was spraying straight up into stuff, there is a problem with the VTEC solenoid.... Does that sound feasible?

Thanks for the help

What was the code? Did you look it up?
No need to flush the system when doing an oil change

Code is P1253

- Engine oil level low
- Low engine oil pressure
- Blocked oil passage
- Faulty VCT oil control valve

As I read.

No to be honest I have never been a fan on using any sort of flush through liquid but the mechanic said they had the same problem with another Honda and that fixed it.

Anyone got any other ideas or thoughts?

hummm. why did the hose fail again? If its the oil cooler hose your mechanic may be onto something. Why did your oil get so hot to make the coolant hose attached to the oil cooler fail? Something is not right with your oiling system. Sounds like it may be blocked, which is really not good.

Are you getting good oil pressure now?

The hose split I think due to it just being so old I think. It was in really bad condition and split right at the clip. There have been no signs for anything wrong with oil pressure, need to get some gauges on the go.

The hole engine runs and still sounds fine doesn't burn oil never been problem its just since that hose went I have had theys things.

reset the ECU and try it again...now that you have the error code from the check engine light.
