I need a laptop to start doing some audio editing and light video editing via the Adobe package....mostly audition and premier.

But I'm torn between either a used macbook pro or new/used windows laptop.

I've checked the requirements of the software and narrowed it down to.

1. macbook pro

2. Hp Zbook

3. Asus N56VZ

Has anyone used both windows and apple netbooks for editing? If so what would you recommend?

Got a budget of £300 - £650

Thanks

MacBook Pro all the way for me, especially for Adobe Creative Suite.

For Video you need something a bit more beefy in my experience else it will do your head in. Spend as much as you can whatever you go for (aim for i7 processor, 8GB).

I have a MacBook Pro for sale at the moment but it might be a bit out of your price range.

Very important: get an SSD! 256gb is not that expensive anymore.

I hate apple but the macbook pro, 16gb of ram and core i7 processor with 512gb ssd drive gets my vote...

Thanks guys.
I'd heading to the Apple Store and John Lewis this afternoon to have a play on the macs....I've always been windows, and not used a mac for nearly 10 years (Cubase)...so not too sure if I can adapt back to them.
Knowing me I'll probably end up walking away with one!. I was trying to keep to the above budget, but oh well.

If I did stick to windows, would either of these be able to cope with the Adobe suite:

Samsung NP350V5C-A06UK Intel Core i7-3630QM or an Acer Aspire E1-572?

Also why would I need an SSD? From what I can gather they don't fry like normal hds do they?

Thanks guys.

If you don't get an ssd, a "normal" hard drive will bottle neck your system. SSD will make you boot your windows or mac os x in just seconds (around 10-15) because of the fast write / sequential reads...

Acer and Samsung , tough decision, they both suck at making laptops.

What other options you got?

There are graphic designers out there that work with Windows :) Especially since W7 I don't hate Windows so much anymore :p This actually is not the right board to ask wether you should choose OSX or Windows.

Look for reviews. Look at the tests at full load. Lots of laptops have a fast CPU but run at lower clock speed at full load due to getting too hot. So good cooling system in the laptop is essential.

Because an i3 with SSD feels twice as fast as an i7 with HDD. Imagine i7 with HDD :D For normal use I would even choose the i3/SSD combo over i7/HDD. For video editting I'd rather have an i5/SSD than i7/HDD.

My laptop for work boots to W8 from completely off to ready to work in around 4 seconds :D

For me I'd much rather have Samsung than Acer. When I worked at a store Acer was in the top 3 of machines for warranty issues, Samsung was better. Also, Samsung tends to use matte displays and I like the build quality on Samsungs better than Acer.

I agree with _JT, samsung is better than acer.

Also if you buy the macbook, buy the extended apple warranty (apple care)just in case :nerv:

Having owned both Windows gets my vote - Apple is better, but not twice better yet it easily costs twice as much. If you have the spare cash (which by the sound of things you don't) go with Apple, if not go for a never Windows based laptop over an older Mac. And yeah SSD is the way forward, I wouldn't have a laptop without one now.

hmm so would I install the ssd internally or is it an external hd?

lol....no other windows options, but I'm open to suggestions?

Could you suggest a samsung machine that would in on par with the macbook for video editing?

I could stretch to the mac by all means, however I'm not familiar with the os, and would prefer I windows device, but unsure which one would match up to the mac specs?.

Id go custom built PC, DinoPC in the UK is what ive used, unit cost between 300-400 and has good spec, and then just bolt on a SSD and im away. 8 sec boot and seemless adobe usage :)

Do they do custom laptops? I need to be mobile, or else I would consider a pc/desktop.
