Well... is it worth doing it?

At work we fit Quaife ATB diffs all the time the VAG range

As the EK9 CTR has a LSD diff as standard... is it worth uprating it? If so what would you go for?

this is out of my knowledge zone so would you mind explaining the difference (lol) and benefit etc,

i know non type-r lsd's arent too strong so a lot of the drag racers upgrade to quaife atb cause they can hold like a 1000whp aside from that im not sure if its 1-way or 1.5-way or 2-way etc... stock is 1-way so if its a 1.5-way there will be some benefits under brakeing.

I have a cusco 1.5 way lsd and I love it, I see a lot of benefits of this lsd when cornering at hight speed and corner exits, my dc2 that its my daily drive has a ats lsd, it came with it from japan, the car grips better in the corners.

For example, I prefer to add a LSD instead of adding after market camshafts , thats because I prefer to have better handling than power, it all depends what do you want your car for.

so has anyone got in lay mans terms the difference between

1 way
1.5
and
2 way etc

Basically 1 way only applies when accelerating it prevents one wheel spin so the power is evenly distributed to both wheels.

1.5 Way is primarily applied to acceleration but also slightly applied to deceleration this gives better stability when braking hard.

2 way applies to both acceleration and deceleration its as effective on acceleration as deceleration so not A good choice for front wheel drive cars as it would cause problems when cornering. drifters use 2way lsd cause its easier to get the back wheels in A spin

Hope this helps :)

ye that helps . cheers :D
best description i have had ...so the civics got 1 or 1.5......1 i assume?

I haven't researched it completely, but I think when I do buy an lsd it'll be a 1.5 way quaife.

IAM SURE WE ALL WANT 'DINO' TO DECIDE ON BUYING AN LSD FOR HIS EK!

:lock: 'dino' will magically produce some excellent write-up on which is the best LSD & WHY? :D

:thanks: in advanced! :nice:

Its not magic, its research! Learn from others experiences and mistakes before you learn from your own!

This is what I've gathered so far on the quaife-

Its daily use is not noticed from a normal differential until you really put the car through its paces, but that may be the case with most lsd's.

It has no plates that need to be replaced over time, its just gears with a lifetime warrantee, and its never a limiting factor in strenth. (as axles are)
I think this is the main thing that makes it different from other lsd's.

You use your standard recommended tranny fluid.

Besides the fact that it works as an LSD putting power to the the wheel with more traction in cornering and accelleration, those are the strong points.

But like I said, I still need to do more research.

i unfortunately dont have lsd in my ek4 and car suffers badly due to it, oem ek9 lsd is very good for daily driving and fun on roads but if lot of track use done and you drive very hard lot of time on roads them mugen/cusco diff's are awesome

downside is that regular oil change required and needs to be rebuilt now and again (this varies on mileage, use etc), makes car veryt snatchy on poor roads as well hence not prefered by mnay on daily driver, also very noisy although noise can be minimised with good oil

now i just need money for close gear set and lsd :)
