Hey, was coming home there when a guy come flying up behind me in a 30 and was like damn hemroids on my back bumper. So i sped up a bit feeling a bit uneasy and round the corner are 2 fife constabulary officers with a speed gun. I slowed to around 28 but think it was too late and when i went past em one of the officers was laughing n had a right smug smile on his face

I wanna know if there is anyway to get off with this coz there was no signs up indicating there would be speed traps in the area??

Not really clued up on UK law tbh but i wanna know if there are any legal loopholes i can exploit like equipment calibration or adequate warning signs etc etc.

any help on this would be awesome.

I you mean there were stood at the side of the road with the hair dryer style gun's??? If so then dont worry about it!:nice:
They would have to pull you over there & then to give you a ticket for speeding, other wise they dont have any record to prosecute you with!!!!
99.9% of the time they are there with this type of speed gun to asses people's speeds to see weather a speed camera is needed in this area!

Yeah with their hairdryer lol. Hope your right mate! Thought it was kinda odd that they didnt come after me.

Honda Junkie - A guy i know had the same thing happen, got caught doing 41 mph in a 30, got 3 points

Aw that sucks, nothin worse eh. well spose they gotta tell me within 14 days eh so i'll soon find out soon enough :angry2:

There should be a temp sign saying police speed check in the area. Since they didn't stop you I wouldn't worry about it.

Arite mate - It really depends on what sort of Radar they were using. If it was a Speed Detection Unit that only shows up your speed they NEED to stop you and make the charge there and then.. However I believe they have these new super dooper video recording radars that actualy record you, your number plate, your face etc, although I think they need to pull you over aswell..

Its the Mobile Vans you need to watch for mate, no flash and very hard to detect on a busy road !!! - Also undercover cars have video recording speed detectors built in, what might look like some twat in a blue VW Bora following you closely for a few miles may actualy be an undercover traffic police vehicle recording everything your doing !!!

Cheers - Andy

Your safe!

My friend had the same thing from 'volunteers' in the neighbourhood looking out for one another and they use the guns to monitor speed or catch you speeding and send you a letter!

It will be a letter of warning, NO point and NO fine. The other thing thats already mentioned if it was the police and they were going to do you it would have been there and then! That gun if its the one im thinking about only gets your speed, they write down your reg, no 'picture' as such would of been taken!

If you need any more help regarding the law I have a friend thats a traffic cop and I used to be in the 'forensic' side of the police not so long ago!

Josh..

if a letter comes through asking weather you want to plead guilty or go to court, go to court yeah its hassle but they will either think whats the point we aint got uch evidence or if it does go to court you can ask to see the latest calibration test on the gun, if they cant show you this or its more than a year old you will get let off no probs!
you can also buy a snooper off ebay that rebounds the gun so it cant read what speed your doing :p

Yeah and they're illegal. Which is more than likly to get you into even more trouble.

As for taking it to court, yeah it's a good option but it sucks that they've recently changed the law, so that if you win or lose, you have to pay the court fees.

We have an area close to me, where you get the guys with their hair dryers, but they signal you over if they catch you, just to have a word.
I'm sure you'll be ok mate, as all them devices do is tell them the speed of a car.

Police use these guys on the motorway aswell, when they're parked up by the side, if they catch someone, they then chase them to pull them over and ticket them.

Edit:-
This is reminds me of a time I was going down a country lane at 11PM, sign posted at national speed limit. A peni5 in a large car was sat right up my arse. Had super bright headlights, so I put my foot down, must of been doing 90+
As I got to the end of the road came to a round-about, I went off right, and peni5 behind me went off left, as I went around the round-about I looked into my rear view mirror, my rear lights caught the reflection of the side of the car which was up my arse, had POLICE written on the side. Why he let me off I don't know lol.

everyone of our cars is illegal no dount about it so having one of these makes no difference really :)

what you have to pay even if you win the case??

NO OFFENCE to any police officers on here but they've litterally got nothing better to do, people are being murdered and housing being robbed but when this happens it takes them two days to apear on your door step, you know why cause young drivers are easy targets and not hard work!!

i dont have a problem in my area with police, this is because there are NONE! The only time i ever see police is when there in my canteen at work eating our food

Sitting in a car, by the side of the road with a camera is the easiest thing to do. Catching murders, starting investigations having to gather evidence is harder.

Catching speeding motorists doing 34 in a 30 is the easiest money making tool for the police / government.

The funny thing is, the guy who invented the fixed speed camera even turned around and said that it's now turned into a dumb idea because it's now only used to make money rather than keep our roads safe.
