Types of COOLANT!

MF: Whilst it is true water is a much better conductor of heat.. you shouldnt NEED to add water to the mixture if the cooling system is adequate.

So you wouldn't want to have the added protection/peace of mind that comes with living in a hot environment?

Sure I can understand if your radiator is already a substantial size but to carry more heat when you can do something to reduce it?

i want to see a pic of this

I can't speak for the B16B, but the coolant bleeder in question is generally found on the older B16As and D-series.

my USDM B18C5(ITR) doesn't have one and requires me to bleed it "manually" with the radiator cap off and periodically squeezing the upper/lower rad hoses while the car warms up.

Do whatever works for you; I understand you have a very hot environment, As it states on the packed its pre-diluted with water. If you want to add even more water then thats your choice.
The factory in japan puts straight colant into the cars and doesnt add water, although that is for stock cars, the cooling system is adequately efficient.

On the old undiluted stuff they would reccomend a 50%-60% coolant concentration. I quote "coolant concentrations less than 50% may not provide sufficient protection against corrosion or freezing"
So I'd ask you are you really giving yourself protection ?

I know you mean protection in 'cooling efficiency but The factory already have a pre-diluted mix for you.

I use straight honda coolant type-1, fluidyne rad, stock thermostat, stock fan switch, stock rad pipes, stock water pump, stock bonnet. We had a little heat wave over here recently with temperatures seeing 28*C! peak for a couple of day which is very unusual for over here, I had been boosting on some big roads here alot then I came to lots of traffic on the motorway crawling, and the heat was blistering... But my car didnt overheat, the coolant temperature looked normal, hadnt moved, my fan was on though and my fan isnt even big enough for that rad! just a fluidyne pusher fan.
I can hammer mine all day and it never twitches on the temperature. its really stable... ive even got my turbo plumbed in on that cooling system and its great because its suitably sized.

That heat wave was mega for England:bow:

hey guys; i already flush n refill with coolant :)

had to get 4 bottles.

didnt have to mix anymore water as the coolant already looking very DILUTED>

btw; the bleed nipple is directly above the radiator hose on the top.

Nice to hear you got the best stuff (type-2) :nice: Let us know about the level and if its stabilised now.

so far so GOOD bro ek9turbo :)

the earlier leakage was becus of the clip not tighten enough @ the back. its one of the hoses near the firewall.

but it seems like the water temp on my cluster now seems to rise slower.

takes awhile b4 reaching optimum temperature

Good to hear youve fixed the leak, as for the temp taking longer to get to optimum...Thats no problem there, its working good. :)

aiks; i guess i was wrong; might be some leakage somewhere; but i cant seem to spot it :(

the spare tank level seems to be going down; any idea??

or could it be becus i jst flush the radiator so; some air or something trap inside. need more coolant over time?

possible, what id do is a radiator pressure test, then cap pressure test it. After that id get the car on the lift, wipe off any coolant, get it upto temp and whilst wearing safety specs if look for leaks from below. Changing your perspective somtimes helps. rad pressure test while engines cold will tell i if its leaking for sure and also if you put a bit more than usual pressure in it youll usually see where its leaking after careful inspection. :nice:

how do u do a pressure test? not sure if my mech knows that.

but i spotted another leak in time. i guess tats the last leakage i hope.

earlier when i start up my engine; to check for leakage. apparently i dont see any. so i let the engine warm up till optimum temp where i tink the pressure n all build up..

spotted my metal headgasket inbetween the head n the block has some of the blue coolant liquid; i thought ZOMG. how come the headgasket for coolant coming out.. den i peak behind. its was one of the mini hoses around the bleeding nipple there.. leaking abit.
i do hope tats the last of it. i've change the clip to a new one.

i hope tats the last of the leaking issue.
almost using up my last bottle of coolant :p

You need a radiator pressure testing tool and all the adaptors for diff rads and caps to be able to do it, its to check its holding pressure, and you can see if its leaking because of pressure dropping. Glad youve spotted another leak. is this with silicone hoses on that part?

oh nono the leak is not from the silicon hoses.

its one of those small hoses around 1/2 inch in width.

not sure y it leaked; but i change the clip on it. so i guessing it should do the job :) i hope.
