Hey, i made a thread about a turbo kit a while ago and have been researching since!

Ive been reading through articles and previous posts, and have found that most people seem to think you can Turbo the B16B inside the ek9 aslong as its tuned properly and set on a very low boost.. 5 - 6psi or something.

Ive seen a few kits on ebay etc.. but they look like total bullshit, so i did some research into garrets etc,

Im Looking to Turbo the B16 in my 9 at the moment, its always been maintained and cared for well. Could i get a few questions answered straight with a reasonable amount of consideration for price, I know quality is everything but splashing 4 - 6k on a Turbo isnt really gonna go down well financially:nerv:

Question Time:

What Low boost turbo kit is viable for use on a b16b i know it would be only safe at low boost but until i read about some B18s this is all im after.

Could someone list the parts needed for the turboing im really looking for a straight kit and tuned but obviously if anything will be damaging the engine ill have a big rethink into it. Also, if i need new injectors, thicker gasket etc.. remember it is only being ran at low boost.

How much am i looking to spend for this to cost for the kit, im not after these animal turbos that you guys run. So a budget turbo kit wud be great but obviously with some decent build quality behind it

Also how easy is it to be tuned? i live in south west england. To my knowledge not many awesome Car tuners around here but if anyone knows a good place please feel to post here so i can give them a call.

Cheers for reading, Thanks in advance for any advice!:thanks:

You need to speak to WILL aka EK9turbo on hear!

He will be able to advise, supply & tune!!

He is defo the man for you anyway TRUST ME!:secret:

Edelbrock open track kit, comes with everything you need to turbo the car including a quality Garrett GT28RS turbo, you supply the fuel/ems.

Injectors, heatstuds, thicker headgasket optional but i would run one, it will allow for a bit more boost and a bit more margin for tuning error. ultimately talk to you tuner.

Funkypower sells the edelbrock kit, go check it out, as far as ease of tuning who cares, that's what you pay the tuner for ;)

I personally am not a big fan of "turbo kits"

I prefer to buy the individual parts set for my build individually, this way you can choose the best parts as apposed to settling for a 1 make kit.

For cost reliability on a low blow set up a cast manifold is a good option, they very rarely crack and allow for fast spooling. A 4 branch unit (not xs power) will generally be better but cost alot more and if your going low blow the benefits are negligabe.

What are you going to be using the car for? Daily driver, track, drag etc?

For drag a large turbo and lag isnt to much of a problem, but on track/road that can be a **** set up so a smaller faster spooling unti would be more driver freindly.

Dont for get aout upgrading clutch as well.

DONT skimp on the control parts (ecu and tuning/waste gate/boost gauge/oil feed/return) these parts are the life of your motor.

Thanks for comments so far guys, and a big shout to blinx with the site:thanks:

Its just a daily runner at the moment, shes never seen a track hehe:)

So if im running the B16b and a turbo kit on low boost the stock internals are fine aslong as you dont rag the **** out of it? or should i deffinatly get these injector, studs, thicker gasket

Drag Turbo Kits - B-series - FUNKY POWER

Anyone ever heard of ppl running this on a b16b?

This was point about turbi kits earlier.

That kits has some good bits but alot of **** your just pating for that you should never use.

- Drag High pressure/High volume inline fuel pump
- Drag Boost dependent FMU fuel regulator
- Map sensor bypass valve assembly

Those bits at a glance a waste of time, the stock fuel pump is man enough to supply fuel for 300bhp quite easily.

To that you would still need injectors and some form of engine management.

Ok so your saying that with turbo kits ur getting alot of stuff you dnt need, so im wasting my money on alot of crap lol

would it be cheaper to research and buy the parts i only need?

What engine management to most people use when turboing a 9?

Drag is ****, well not complete ****, just an old design, don't waste your money.

Not all turbo kits are created equal, the edelbrock open track kit does not come with any useless parts, GT28RS turbo, Tial BOV, Garrett intercooler, all needed piping/oil lines/etc, not a single useless part. Do you think Full-Race turbo kits come with useless parts? The kit is a great option for first timers, putting together your own often times ends up with an awesome setup but way over budget and can be overwhelming for some...

I'd personally just select all parts by myself.

but if you insist on buying whole complete kits, just don't buy ones that still rely on FMUs and whatnot. go with tuned ECUs or have a ECU re-tuned. don't skimp on the tuning part, believe me. also, check the turbo's horsepower rating if it will satisfy your need for more power in the future. :)

@ 200whp or less get (assuming you have turbo, BOV, intercooler, all pipings, manifold):

---440cc-750cc injectors (brand new ones cost the same anyways, so why go smaller if it will be tuned. 750 will be the limit for smooth idling and it's really an overkill, but if you know that in the future you want to have more power then why not get them)

---ARP Headstuds along with a new OEM headgasket just to be safe

I'm having thoughts on the longetivity of high-comp cast pistons.

Cheers for all advice comin is really helping me alot!

once this turbo is on my 9 am i looking at new ECU or is the stock one viable?

Cud anyone give any tuning places in southern westernish england, willing to travel to midlands - devonways if its really good reccomendation!

Also cud someone explain in a bit of detail what an engine tune actually does? :D

someone posted WILL is awesome from the site

The question is, is it safe to run any sort of TURBO on a EK9? Would like to know that?

someone posted WILL is awesome from the site

He is defo the man for you mate, his own EK9 turbo is just show's what he can do!
25,000+ miles with no probs at all, producing 300whp+ as a daily driven car just say's it all for me!

He has tuned my car for me in the past & it improved my car ten fold!
I am now having him build me a high comp B18 for my EK9!
I have never taken my car to a graage in my life, i do all my own work (i have built lot's of engines in my time) but he is doing this one for me as i trust his work more than my own TBH!

Awesome sounds like he knows his stuff!

Ok ive got the list so far:

Ram manifold
Garrett gt28rs turbo
Intercooler
All the pipe work
Hks dump valve
Apexi avcr boost controller
Sump
440cc injectors

Things still needed:

New ECU and Tune!

I have no idea about these but ive seen a few P28 bein used on b16a2? And tuning i will be deffinatley going after WILL as Jimbob gave such a good reccomendation! Anyone give an estimate on the price of the ECU and Tune will come to? a friend said around £750

Where is WILL based to?

:thanks:

He sure does know his stuff!

WILL supply's Hondata ECU's him self & was cheaper than anyone else i got quoated from!:naughty:

He is based near Doncaster mate!

I will inform him of this thread & get him to reply him self!

you need to have the car y-socketed (better) or re-socketed (quite ok) to run OBD1 rechippable ECUs :)

Try not to put him in an awkward position by saying he will post, he's not a Vendor...

He might not be a vendor on a forum site.. But Jim just said he Supplys

And thanks mate looking forward to his reply!
