This thread is truly inspiring! Good on ya for all the hard work!
Big respect bro
Loving the thread! Making me so jealous with all these fresh parts! Even that pallet looks immaculate!
Nice car lad
Thanks guys, you wouldn't say that if you saw the exterior of the car though!
It's not very pretty at the moment. But as soon as the brakes are approved for road use here (currently in the last stages of the paper mill), and the engine is in, I'll get to that.
So anyway, I'm finally back in the saddle carfiddlingwise, and I've done a little bit of prep on the engine before the transplant (no, I'm not putting it into the GTi-R) :
Yanked off the pulley to get to the timing belt and pumps. Yep, the ratchet was a bit optimistic, I broke out its big-assed cousin after the pic :
Got the sump off, inspected the pickup for clogging - of which there was none, and made sure the crank and stuff had the holy JDM grail markings :
Out with the old, in with the new. The water pump and tensioner were just fine, so I'm not going to bother with changing them :
And I gave some of the threads some TLC, as the bolts didn't slide out as easily as I'd like them :
Put on a new oil filter, and was mildly irritated that the engine is missing the TPS, MAP sensor, IAC valve and a temperature sensor. Yes, it'll bolt over from the other engine, but I thought I purchased a complete engine. So I'll probably order up extras of these, so I'll have two complete engines. Less hassle should I ever have to swap back.
