Trondelond's EK4

Thanks! :) Got the CO approved at the MoT today, so the next step is to have the koni/eibachs approved for road legality. Then it should be fit to drive on the roads (at least according to the authorities).

Thanks! And now it's finally road legal, got the springs and dampers approved yesterday, so hooray me!

Figured I'd celebrate with replacing some front arb bushings, but the first bolt I tried to undo just snapped clean off. So I've ordered new bolts, the things that hold the bushes, endlinks and whatnot. Will have to drill out the snapped bolt and try to get the others off when I change the front bushes and springs/dampers next week.

In the meantime, I've made a logo for the project :

Goddamnit. Was removing the front lower lca´s when one of the big bolts snapped. And of course the one that goes into the subframe. The one that doesn´t have a nut on the end of it.
So, will have to try and rectify by taking out the subframe, and getting someone to drill the rest out. It´s too far for my household drills to reach effectively.

The subframe was a bit of a bastard to get out, but I got there. And the control arms are handed in for bushing replacement. It´ll be interesting to see how much difference I notice with Mugen bushings.

Replaced the holder bits for the rear ARB, along with some bolts I got from ASR :

Then finished up the rear end with new spoon springs and dampers. Mmm.

Since the car´s not going anywhere the next couple of days I figured I could just as well put the 1" MC/BB in. It bolted (somewhat) nicely up, and the arm that connects to the brake pedal didn´t need any adjustment. But there´s not much action when pressing the brake pedal. May be a bench bleed issue or something. Will look into that tomorrow.

Well, the master cylinder just needed a serious bleeding, so all is well. Will hand in the subframe tomoorow, and hopefully they'll have the snapped bolt out soon.

Finally got the subframe back, so I got that bolted on today. Bit of a bastard to get back in place as well. And I managed to snap a drillbit and get it lodged in the front arb bolt that snapped earlier. So I´m getting fed up, and having the holder for the front arb bushing welded. Installing new bushings, so they´re not coming off anytime soon.
Got most of the crap bolted up, just need to pop into the post office tomorrow to get some new bits, endlinks, bolts and bushing holders for the front arb and such. And the exhaust needs to be installed.

Thank you! :) Kept it up today with a shipment of stuff :

It was horrible to set foot onto the new mats :/

Now they´re dirty.. installed the new endlinks and prothane bushings for the front arb. Slapped on the exhaust and hooked up the bits in the engine bay that were undone when the subframe was removed, and hello :

I think I´m seeing the effects of the DC2 spindles now, as it´s half an inch higher in the front now. Perhaps it will settle down, although I think "settling down" is the result of people tightening bolts without preloading the suspension.
Getting my wheels aligned tomorrows, and then it´s a drive to see what it feels like with new mugen lca bushings and the spoons! :D

Well, the handling and brakes are officially done. All bushings replaced with OEM, Mugens and polys. DC2s with matching master cylinder, adjustability in all directions and Spoon dampers/springs. Got the front arb bushing clamp welded on last night by a buddy, and damn - she rides good.

So I´ll probably start on the exterior next, although with the Spoon dampers I really should find every loose bit of interior, as these make stuff rattle quite a bit more.

Not too much going on here, as I've bought a house and I'm moving in. But at least I got some fun rubber on the winter rims, so I can attend an upcoming trackday!

Now I have an incentive to find some decent winter wheels. :D

Not much to report, as I've had knee surgery and been on my back for almost three months. Also, I've moved to a new town, and haven't had a garage! But now I do, I only have to slap up some more walls and get the floor sorted.

So, this is where I'll be working :

And when the walls are up, this is what's on the menu :

New clutch, airbox, timing belt and flywheel bolts, that go along nicely with the B18C here :

:D

Loving the thread! Making me so jealous with all these fresh parts! Even that pallet looks immaculate! :nice:

This thread is truly inspiring! Good on ya for all the hard work!

Big respect bro :nice:

Nice car lad :nice:

Thanks guys, you wouldn't say that if you saw the exterior of the car though! It's not very pretty at the moment. But as soon as the brakes are approved for road use here (currently in the last stages of the paper mill), and the engine is in, I'll get to that.

So anyway, I'm finally back in the saddle carfiddlingwise, and I've done a little bit of prep on the engine before the transplant (no, I'm not putting it into the GTi-R) :

Yanked off the pulley to get to the timing belt and pumps. Yep, the ratchet was a bit optimistic, I broke out its big-assed cousin after the pic :

Got the sump off, inspected the pickup for clogging - of which there was none, and made sure the crank and stuff had the holy JDM grail markings :

Out with the old, in with the new. The water pump and tensioner were just fine, so I'm not going to bother with changing them :

And I gave some of the threads some TLC, as the bolts didn't slide out as easily as I'd like them :

Put on a new oil filter, and was mildly irritated that the engine is missing the TPS, MAP sensor, IAC valve and a temperature sensor. Yes, it'll bolt over from the other engine, but I thought I purchased a complete engine. So I'll probably order up extras of these, so I'll have two complete engines. Less hassle should I ever have to swap back.

Thanks! Just hope the paperwork goes through for the brakes, and I'll be swapping engines soon! :)
