I'm thinking of getting myself a set of 4 Toyo Proxes R888 tires for track use in 205/50/15 as Toyo recommends those for OEM 15" Honda 1992 civic vti wheels.

What is your opinion of that? Do you recommend those or other tires?

I just want good grip, no matter the cost and endurance :D

:thanks:

They are decent but starting to get expensive. Don't last long at all.

Yoko A048s is what i would go for, used to be more expesnive but prices are very similar now, A048 have better grip and last slightly longer IMO.

I am going to try some Federal FZ-201s when i next need a new set of tyres. Not to much about them on the web but look a decent tyre and are cheaper than R888 and A048s.

i have AD08's in 195/55/15 and they are just amazing they last long AMAZING grip and just an amazing tyre, but if you want alot of grip for a short period of time go for the R888!

@ egshane, I have been looking into the Yokohama AD08's and they sound very promising! What tyres did you have before to compare the wear rate to?

I would just be using them as road tyres as I have separate wheels for the track but my only hesitation is that I currently have Yoko Parada spec2s and they have plenty of grip in the dry, not so much in the wet but the good thing is that the only cost £35 a tyre which is half the price and they last well too

somebody on itr-dc2.com was advertising some new federal tyres, may have been rare rims, will need to check. but they sounded good, and at around £75 a tyre.

parada spec 2s are what i had on it before and i found these we apauling in every way!

i will defo be buying AD08's in the future again!!

I used to have A048's on the front of my S14. The grip was PHENOMENAL! I didn't know you could get that kind of grip from a DOT Spec tire. I had the Medium Compound so they lasted a good bit. They don't like high amounts of camber though. I'd say anything under -2* would be good. I used to run them on the street also and brand new they would last about 1 full year maybe a little over. That included Drifting, Touge/Grip & Daily use so I'd say they held up very well. Would def. buy them again. Right now I'm trying on the Hankook V12's for size since I needed something cheaper and honestly didn't need the grip of the AO48 for mostly daily driving. So far the V12's have put out very nicely.

In addition to the AD08 the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs are very very very similar in performance stats and a few dollars cheaper.

Get the tyres is 195/50/15, no need at all for 205/50, i've run 195/50 on oem wheels and now 15x6.5" regas and they have been spot on

They do last pretty well if your car is setup right, think my last set did about 7k miles, that includes 26 laps of the nurburgring and about 200 laps of knockhill

R888 are much better than a048 yokos in the wet, i can still push the car in the wet and it's very predictable, when we were at the nurburgring last year, one of the guys in a well setup DC2 was running a048 and said the car felt broken as the tyres couldn't cope with the conditions!

The new Federal RS-R sound promising also, might be worth having a look at these, however looking at the design may not offer the same grip levels as R888, but still more grip than a conventional road tyre

i just put a set of the federal RS-R on my teg yesterday, will let you all know how i get on, need some decint weather first tho!

Demontweeks stock these tyres and they do come in 195/55/15. There £76 each I think.
