its probably the d14 blasting out so much power.
what manifold is it ?
it its common after fitting a 4 branch manifold to hear ticking noises its the manifold because its thiner u can hear the sounds of the combustion process more easly,i would still advise u check it for eny loose brackets or bolts and leaks but it is generaly because they are a thiner metal compaired to the original cast manifold.

Tightened it from the centre of the manifold outwards...

Manifold was spot on, when on my mates car and you even commented on the condition yourself when I met you.
Don't suppose you thought of putting exhaust paste on the gaskets as they are used!! The noise in question probaly will be the join of the 2 halfs, did you tighten the 3 bolts before you installed it? As I only nipped them up!
