Right guys, im looking to find out the best way to have a breather system setup, it seems that many people think one way is best and many people think another is best. Well im stuck in the middle! I removed my black box and pluged it and had the two pipes coming off the back of the block, problem with that was that the can kept filling and overflowing. So people said it was a mistake to remove the black box, so i put it back on and it is still filling but not as fast. Becuase i refitted the box i had to blank off one of the fittings on the back of the block again because the black box sits over it so i only have the one pipe off the back of the block. Am i better off leaving the block as standerd and just venting the rocker cover ? Any help woukd be great please.

Thanks

I run three in total from the rocker cover, one oem and two an -10 size fittings.

This.
If you run lines from the back of the block beside the alternator it normally has a tendancy to fill catch tanks up.
Use the stock black box run a line to a can, then run the 3 rocker cover lines to the can.

that is the ecact answer i was looking for! I think that is the problem, and to cure it i was thinking of doing what you just said. Do you think that if there was some sort of way of baffling the holes in the block that it would stop the oil carrying up the lines ? Does the engine breather better with those lines off the block ?

Ditch the blackbox and pcv system.

Get a catch can with 'drain back' fitting on the bottom.. Use the 3 fittings on the back of the block and 1 or 3 from the cam cover..

You can use the factory breather fitting on the cam cover or weld on 2 more fittings.

Ditch the pcv yes but keep the box or run a line from that side of the block.
If you use the fittings on the back of the block, especially the one beside the alternator, it will fill the can up.

if i was going to have a drain back then yes i would ditch the blackbox and run the two fittings off the back of the block, however that is how i have it setup at the moment but withought the drain back and the oil in the can seems to fill with creamy sludge from the oil and condensation(head gasked isnt gone!) and if i did have a drain back then that sludge would drain into my engine whick cant be good.

IM thinking of keeping the blackbox, making a custom can to fit where the battery is and have the three from the rc and one from the blackbox into the can and possibly the one from the back of the alternator if i could baffle the fitting so it doesnt carry oil. What you think ?

I can't find the pics but I've got the set up on my ek9 you're mentioning. Ditched the battery to the boot and have a catch can with a mini moto filter on the top. I've got a drain port but it never seems to fill up.

Whatever take offs you use on either the rocker or the block I would definitely baffle them.

yes i would deffo baffle them, just not sure weather to use those ports on the block

No you dont have to use them, my car runs great with what i mentioned earlier. Black box to can(no pcv) stock valve cover to can (teed off the blackbox line) then 2 extra -8/-10 lines from the front of the valve cover.
I never get oil in my can. I only empty it every so often and its always just condensation with oil vapour mixed in. So it looks milky.
I myself wouldnt use a drainback system, as youve mentioned what happens to the condensation?

well i think that is the way i am going to go tbh, simply coz i dont like the idea of water in my oil, however if i could baffle the line somehow so it wouldnt fill up the can, then i would luke to run a drain back so i dont have to empty it.

I'm certainly not experienced enough to definitively say one way is better than another (or conversely that a particular setup is not ideal). But there are some locals here who have decades of Honda racing experience and significant time testing setups, and their preferred method is removing the black box and replace it with a bung, also remove the breather at the back of the rocker cover, and add two AN -12 breathers off the front of the rocker cover to a catch can. No drain back.

I've got that on my car now. Works well.

ok mate tbanks for the input, i will bare it in mind when i come to sort it.

Thanks alot

This the plug I got instead of my black box. Plugged it, put on a hose and ran it to my can.
