Basically I am buying some sheet foam to make my own rear light gaskets and I can't buy a small amount, so thought I may as well make few more sets.

Just wanted to find out if anyone would buy them. Would be a huge saving over Honda ones.

Been looking at EPDM foam which is great stuff. I figured may was well get the good stuff so they should last a very long time, maybe out perform the OEM ones.

I will be trialing it on my own ek before hand because I wouldn't want to sell a shoddy product.

Here is the specs for the foam. Let me know what you guys think and would you consider buying a set?

"Like the name suggests, the High Temperature EPDM is mainly suitable for applications where the material is required to withstand high temperatures and also cope with ozone effects. The EPDM material used for the product provides a good temperature range of -50°C to +121°C and resistance against high temperatures, weathering and ozone."

Thanks for support Gav. :nice:

Won't be making these for a few weeks yet. So got a bit of time for some feedback.

I have been thinking £15 for a pair posted. So not expensive.

Just depends on how they perform 1st.

Should note the foam will be 5mm thick.

If you're happy with them, drop me a pm at the time and i'll take a set :nice:

Good idea bud, should be quite popular as I'm sure a lot of us EK and EJ owners have suffered from the leaky light problem.

are you replacing your OEM ones robbie? I think I already have a set on my EK9 (need to check). If they do help, I might consider also.

Will be replacing OEM ones. This is why I've gone for the EPDM foam, so they should be total replacement parts. With no need to keep the old one on there.

I have temporarily fixed mine with some draft excluding stuff and its a bit thick. So figured I'd do it properly plus I don't like the idea of glueing them on with sealant.

Funny you should say that Gav. My good friend got himself a DC5 a few weeks a go and also needs new rear seals so i will be knocking up a set for him. So could potentially do a few of these as well.

Proper sloshing in his boot!

Thank you vti2010 :nice:

Me and Steve m did this with I think it was 6mm neoprene foam a year or so ago, came out really well and cost nothing to do

Ok yes you can use neoprene it's not bad but the point of using the EPDM stuff is that it should be the last time you replace them.

EPDM also comes in a rubber form and is already widely used in the automotive world as rubber door seals etc. they don't exactly need replacing very often.

The rear lights receive constant abuse from the weather so I have been looking at different foams for a while now. EPDM foam seems to fit the bill nicely.

The following is from the net;

The main properties of EPDM are its outstanding heat, ozone and weather resistance. The resistance to polar substances and steam are also good. It has excellent electrical insulating properties. It has good resistance to ketones, ordinary diluted acids and alkalines.

Yeah it does look really good stuff that

We never looked into it that much, just bought a big roll of the stuff and it did well

Would deffo be a good shout cause even with simauto discount prices I paid £25 I think it was for my rear seals on the ek9
