Hello folks i am trying to get as much info as i can b4 i get my EK9

i am a fan of standard but want to make my EK9 run handle and sound amazing,

i am looking to change the airfilter, manifold and exhaust along with suspension (maybe just tein springs)

what would you reccomend make, price, performance, sound etc etc

i har people saying they want to put the original air box on? why is this is it better than an after market one?

sorry to ask so many questions

cheers people

adam.... :nice:

I would recommend, mugen exaust, toda header, top fuel intake.

Top fuel intake = 300 $
Mugen exaust = (complete system) 1000 $
Toda header = 990 $

A lot of people recommend using OEM Air box, because it isolates heat from the engine, so only cold air enters the engine.

Hope you buy your ek9 soon.

What an easy thing for SpoonCTR to recommend the best products....
Hey Adam_83, if what you want is just a header and an exhaust, my suggestion is not to spend $2000 for just those two parts. The gains you will get won't be much without ECU(or chip), cams, head work......I don't think worths the money....... But with a complete street setup, the Mugen exhaust and the Toda 4-2-1 will operate at full potential and then it will be a wise choice. :nice:

nice one boys where in the Uk is best to get all these parts from?

so a manifold and mugen exhaust are the things to go for, what about manifold and with the cold air intake will it make much differance from the original air box?

anyone reccomend any good importers to the uk?

Before you start thinking about mods, you have to follow the basic rule: Intake - header - exhaust not matter the brand. The stock ones have to be removed. Without these first, you do nothing or almost nothing. Its stupid to start with cams, ECU......and then these. You either kill your self or the car or both!!! As far as I know, the stock air box manages heat very good so I don't think, the box makes necessary to be replaced or at least it should not be a priority. Also, if you cannot affort $1000 for Toda, get a 5Zigen for about $500 which gives excellent midrange torque. I'm running it, and I'm telling the truth. :nice:

i was going to question what a header was but it is a manifold isnt it?

so header, full system and possably an air intake. thanks foir the advice

so with the list above will it make a good fun addition to my ek9(when i get it )

i am desperate to make it roar

when should an ecu/rmap be considered?

Thanks for the advice

a decent manifold and exhaust system will make your car roar :D

get in touch with the guys at www.privateimports.co.uk they are very helpful and they can source you parts at very god prices

funky power is also another great retailer too

i prefer 5 zigen exhaust n buddy club N1 when vtec open the nice is so nice n fierce~~

thanks again for the advice, i am looking to get my ek9 in November when i am 24 so insurance should be a little lower, i cant wait to get the mods on the go looks like i will go for the 5zign header and an N1 system, what air intake?

is it best to get them from japan or get them form a UK dealer? i want to buy them now but going to wait because i might be lucky to get an EK9 with some bits on it,

i just want my ek9 now but will have to wait, i have been in touch with privateimports and they have said that a good condition EK9 would set me back £9000  that is a bit high in my book when i have seen them in the country already for about £6500 -£7000 what is the going price?

could you recommend any UK sellers/ dealers or is bit best to go for a fresh import? i like to see things before i buy them so i can make a decision, if i buy one and get it shipped over here it might have a few problems etc and then i am stuck with it.

my dad says i am mad to touch a jap imprts but i disagree. has anyone had any mechanical problems and when does the cam belt need to be changed?

sorry to ask so many questions again.
:)

spoon springs( 15 mm drop on front 20mm on rear+there ek9 specific fitment, 99% of after market springs for the ek's are for ek4's and are no good on ek9 dampers as i found out )

spoon n1 + b pipe (the two together =cat back) the fit, sound and power are awesome

hks drop in panel filter (if you decide to keep the air box)

itg maxogen carbon air box or the mugen air box (if you go for aftermarket air box)

nology hot wires HT leads + ngk irridium plugs

spoon or toda 4-2-1 manifolds

all the above are good base mods

A good condition 99 t reg should be around £7500 with 60000 miles on it (100000km's)from a dealer but i have seen mint 00 w reg's with 30000 miles on them go for around £9500-9800 dealer, you can get a decent 98 pre face lift ek9 for about £6500-6700 private sale with about 65-70000 miles on them

servicing wise i change the oil every 3000 miles and the timing belt should be changed around 70000 miles

thanks a lot i have been looking about for bits to buy and am going to wait till i have the car and see what it comes with there are a few on auto trader that look ok but i have got to be careful.

anything i have to look out for? Spots of rust? Noises? Wear and tare etc?

and another quick one which is better a 4-1 or a 4-2-1 header

Adam if i can ask you, what was insrance working out at for you on the Ek9 Type R? Im 21 Stay in Glasgow 1 years NCB and got quoted 995 quid! I dont know if this is good or what because the insurance company didnt even know you could get a 1.6 Type R (import) apparently its called a Honda Civic EK9 VTI-R .

(Oh and by the way, my old man said its not a good idea to get one either but im still gonna buy one lol)

hay danny

well brase yourself i am 23 and i have been getting quotes for £1500 and that is with all mods and 0 NCB i would have 2 but have been getting quotes with 0 as i had a bump 3 weeks ago and the liability is being disputed, if it goes against me i weill have to pay the £1500 but if it doesnt i will pay less so if i aim for the higher anything lower is a bonus, ELEPHANT.co.uk have been the best and bell were good aswell but not as low as elephant,

i am looking for an EK9 now if the insurace goes against me ill get a loan and get one for summer if it doesnt i will finish this year and have 2 years NCB and be 24 and save a bit of mular.

you got yours yet then? where yu looking ? i want to get one that is already in the country not to hot on the importing side not got a clue what to do.

How you doing Adam,

Man thats unbelievable Insurance if i can advise, stay well clear of Bell i had an absolute nightmare with that mob, A woman crashed into me last september and there STILL disputing it! Ne way....

I havent got mine yet (Lookng for a 99/00 EK9 Type R) Although i still trying to shift my Honda Civic i have at the moment! So once thats out the way ill be well on par to get one!

Thats what my old man keeps saying 'aw its a bad idea' but hs only saying that because its coming from Japan! I got put in touch with a really helpful guy called Duncan he said he can sort it all out for me!! (Courtesy of Neo for putting me in touch)

cool so who is this Duncan fella?

i am a bit unsure about getting one from japan i want to be able to look at it b4 i buy it you know what i mean, if i commit to buy one and it gets here in a sorry state with mechanical problems then i am in trouble i have to have it, but if i buy one that is already in the country and used it usually has high miles, what miles you looking for? i wan t a facelift model, 98.99 or 00 with low miles and good nic. not asking a lot really lol

if you could point me in the rite direction i would be great full.

where is this Duncan based? and how much is he getting the civics for? Obviously fully registered and ready to go.

do you know if parts are hard to get hold of and if they are expensive as it would break my hear to find i need a new gear box etc and it would wipe me out.

another question for u with the insurance issue. if you have an out standing claim that isn’t sorted out by the time of your renewal date does that mean you can get a new policy using your no claims or is it frozen? i mean i am close to my renewal date but have a disputed responsibility claim going through and want to know if i can use my NCB on a new policy if it is not settled by the time it come around?

sorry to bombard with the questions,

Adam

Best thing to do is:
B4 purchasing the car, visit his website to look at the value of his cars.
www.fastjapcars.co.uk
For insurance, look around and call up insurance companies to tell them your situation. Companies such as:
Adrian Flux
Greenlight
Sky insurance
A-Plan

:D

I have asked all the exact same questions matey and as far as im aware parts are readily available either through the internet or ebay, the cars aint that old yet! And keep in mind that Honda are absolutley renowned for reliability and always have been!
I dunno what will happen with your claim, obviously dependant on if it was your fault or not? (Independant witnesses>?) Your insurer will ask all these questions and if you should have to pay the 1500 noted and then you win the dispute they will re-inburst you the differance as you will then hold a years NCB.

And as for the EK9, from what ive heard and seen in the pics, Duncans the man for it, he does say he wont make you drive from john 0 groats to lands end to look at a **** car, and ive spoke to a few happy customers so i know where ill be getting mine!

Best of luck matey!
