Suspension setup and spring rates questions

Hello guys! I plan on upgrading my trackday EK's suspension with the combo of Bilstein B8 shocks and Eibach Sportline or HR Race Springs. Does anyone have any idea of how this setup will work? What's the maximum stiffness of the springs the B8 are able to handle? Are what are the spring rates of Eibach Sportline springs and HR Race Springs? Thanks

Reference: Honda Spring Rates - ClubCivic.com - Honda Civic Forum

Check this out for spring rates, to find out each rate in KG/mm just go to google, type in the sportline front rate for instance-

310 lbs/in in kg/mm, it will automatically give you

310 (pounds / in) = 5.53596987 kg / mm.

So now you have the conversion confusion handled.

And I have to ask a few more questions, is this a street and race setup you're building? You did say it's a track day car, but the parts you're referring to, besides the race springs, tell me that this might be a street car as well?

Sportlines are street springs, HR race are stiff but IMO not stiff enough in the rear. Spring stiffness will all depend on your racing experience, how much oversteer you like and your driving style. Our cars understeer by nature, to counteract this on the racetrack you want at LEAST equal rates front and rear.

Dampers, such as the B8, are made for a certain spring rate, and most can handle 2kg/mm over or under what they are designed to use for a spring. I don't really have too much time, but from what I've gathered the B8's are not your best choice for racing.

What other springs and dampers can you get a hold of?

This is a track car only, although I don't have too much racing experience. From the info you gave me it seems like sportline springs are definately not what I am looking for. HR race are 8,2K/6,2K which is less than Tein Flex i use on my daily driven DC2. As far as I understood from your reply Bilstein B8 is also not what I am looking for, and even won't be able to handle HR race springs (although I found no info concerning the spring rate B8 are designed for). I just was recommended this setup by my friends, but I don't think they have ever used this setup on track. What will you recommend? Should I look for teins, ohlins, etc?

If your just looking for Stock Type Struts and Springs for Struts I'd rec. Koni Sport Yellows. Koni Yellows can take ~500lbs Springs right off the shelf. As for the Bilstiens IDK what they can handle but they are quality. As is Koni and Ohlins. Good thing about the Koni's is that there slightly ride height Adj. via the Lower Spring seats so you can even do a bit of Corner balancing. As far as Spring rates go it mostly depends on you and how you like the feel. Weather it be slight understeer or oversteer on demand. That 8/6 Split with the HR springs will be a decent starting point to give you an idea of what Rate of Springs you want to run. I personally would like something in the range of that 8/6 split. Also Adj. Sway bars can help dial in the Under & Oversteer.

I think you are looking for the exact same thing I am looking for, some linear rate springs to fit the OE dampers. It's not an easy task, all aftermarket springs I have found for the EK are progressive (or very soft linear). I want to look into getting some custom 450lb linear rate springs for the stock EK9 dampers. Obviously this is too stiff for the stock damping, but my Spoons should be able to handle it, as should any replacement damper such as the Konis / Bilstiens.

Should be just the right setup (for me) without all the unneccesary complexity and pitfalls of full coilovers.

From the top of my head

4,3kg front and rear

Front = linear
Rear = progressive

Spoon progressive springs

Front = 6,2kg
Rear = 5,3kg (something in that order)

Spoons are really good for road and occasionally track.

But for a track setup i would advise you an BC Racing BR type set
with 8kg and 6kg setup. U can always switch 8 to the rear and buy 10 for the front. But just like the rest i think its a good base.

Ive just ordered 8kg and 5kg cause with the trailerarm bushings replaced for PU its also a tad stiffer + in combination with whiteline swaybar u can adjust the tension to the swaybar for over or understeer.

Can I ask a quick question. I've done lots of searching but can't seem to find the answer.

I'm thinking about sacking the coilovers off for a damper/spring set up and I'm looking at either the Bilstein/Eibach combo or the Koni/Eibach with Ground Control setup.

I have info on the Koni's so that's fine however the only Bilstein that seems to fit an EK is the B6 damper and not the B8 which is the shorter version. Also all Eibach springs I've found only seem to fit EK3's and EK4's whether that's the Pro-Kit or Sportline.

Is the EK3/4 suspension interchangeable with the EK9, is it basically the same set up on both cars?

Thanks.
