Stiff gear change

Hi folks

Looking for some advice on the above stated stiff gear change issue I'm having. I've looked around the forums but can't really find any stories with the same problem as mine. I've had my ek9 for nearly 3 years now and it's been a very reliable car especially considering the abuse it gets. Although more recently the gear change has been getting stiff when the car is hot, i.e gearbox up to normal operating temperature. Gear change is smooth and easy when the car is cold, like it used to be all the time, only it's been stiff when hot for a few months now. Like something might be getting tight once it's up to temperature?? I'm also getting some vibration through the gear stick when accelerating and mostly in vtec which wasn't there before.

First thing I did was check clutch fluid level, that was fine and I had the wife press the clutch and I could see the slave cylinder extending out what looked to be the full way, next I changed the gear oil using Honda mtf, no improvements.

The clutch doesn't slip or grab or do anything silly, the gears don't crunch or grind when changed, just stiff but importantly only when hot regardless of whether the car is stationary or moving.

I've got a new clutch for it and I'm planning on changing it this weekend to rule it out.

The car is on 158000kms, has a standard b16b and sc4 gearbox. It runs really well despite this issue and it is maintained regardless of cost.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ewan

With the symptoms you describe (especially the vibration) I would be willing to say it's almost certainly your clutch that has failed,

It's quite common that one of the tabs on the pressure plate that hold the inner ring to the outer part has broken,

The inner ring then floats around slightly going off centre and putting the pressure plate out of balance slightly causing the slight vibration and also causes it to drag slightly on the friction plate.

It's best to avoid driving it until it's fixed really

Ok thanks for the reply, I'll change the clutch this weekend then take it from there. Don't need to drive it anyway so it shouldn't come to any more harm.
