does that mean you need to get under the car or can do from the top? + does engine need go come out?It sits on top of the gearbox a little towards the rear, I can take a picture for you tomorrow. I should have a spare if you need one.
Yep that's the engine mount. Replacing it is seriously easy! Disconnect from the loom, two bolts out, wiggle the knackered starter motor out (towards the engine mount), new one in, bolts back in, attach loom - done. 1/2 hour job I'd say depending on what else you'll need to remove to get access (maybe strut brace or air intake arm) I removed mine after I took the head off so it was a walk in the park.the black bracket in the first photo? It that the l/h/s engine mount?
probs a stupid question, how do I disconnect from the loom? Is it just a square clip?
I'm gunna have a look at it tomorrow
yeah, I always take battery off when on electronics. There's two things you'll need to disconnect - the power cable from the battery - this is held on by a nut so just undo the nut and a single wire from the loom, just pull it off like any other connector. Honestly this is a Haynes one spanner affair![]()
thanks for the adviceYeah the bit on the top that holds the loom, it's attached to the starter motor by a single bolt (10 or 12mm I think). You'll be fine, I can remember how nervous I was when I was doing my first bits on the car, just a few years ago - even the simplest things like changing the thermostat were a "challenge".A few years later and I'm taking my 9 to bits to do what is getting dangerously close to a nut and bolt restoration. I'm taking my old engine and box out tomorrow!
its far nicer to explain things than take the Michael. You really think I haven't googled this first?
