Standard B Pipe - How good is it?

Hi all,

I was wondering how much of a restriction a standard B pipe is on the engine compared to a aftermarket one?

Are there noticable gains by having a aftermarket B pipe or is the standard one decent enough?

Thanks

Dipesh

I would say the standard b pipe is pretty good on the ek9 most restriction will be in cat and backbox... I fitted a spoon street style back box to my standard b pipe and a j's racing decat noticed good improvement over stock:nice:

Thanks for the reply! I thought as much!

I really want a spoon street backbox too but need to get rid of the rm01a I've just bought!

Does the standard B-pipe not have 2 resonators though? One in the centre just back from the cat and another just before it joins to the back box?

I know that when I fitted my Spoon B-pipe I noticed a few differences

-light as hell, serious can lift it with one finger
-only 1 resonator, the large one just back from the cat
-tubing diameter is pretty huge

I always believe that a full exhaust system will flow better, although the downside to the spoon item is that where it joins to the backbox it uses the same size gasket/connection as oem, so yes the piping is a nice large 2.5" throughout but it bottlenecks at the flanges which restricts flow

That's why systems like buddyclub spec 2 flow so well (yes the spec 2 sound like complete ass) they are 2.5" through with slip joints so there are no bottlenecks. My friend just had a full exhausst made for his hillclimb integra and it's slipjointed 2.5" straight through with only 1 silencer (carbon repackable), must flow incredibly well :blinx:

As said the major restrictions on the standard exhaust are the Manifold, Cat and Backbox.

I have a standard system with a resonated De-cat and the other day I took the backbox off for a little tester and the car honestly felt so much better top end. I understand the noise will make the appearance of you going faster but you do really notice a difference.

I wouldnt recommend this however as you may damage your lower arms, brake lines etc and even worse - fume yourself to death!

I personally am looking at getting either a full Spoon or Buddy club spec 2 system as steven mentioned. However the Buddy club will almost guarantee police trouble and a restriction from Trackdays :(

Anyways back to the topic. Standard B-pipe is a good piece of kit and being stainless steel as an added bonus! Its downfalls are weight and pipe diameter as already mentioned!

And just to add im pretty certain that the standard B-Pipe on has one silencer.

Josh..
